While this legal milestone is a triumph for the judiciary, it is deeply rooted in the persistent, unglamorous "ground work" carried out by social activists and organizations who refused to let "period poverty" remain in the shadows.

The Catalyst: Ground Work by Sudhamta Foundation Led by the visionary social activist Arumita Mitra, the Sudhamta Foundation has been a silent architect of this change. Long before the gavel struck, Arumita and her team were navigating the remote corners of rural India, breaking taboos one workshop at a time.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞: Through the distribution of millions of pads and the education of thousands, Sudhamta Foundation provided the "proof of concept" that the world needed: when girls have access to hygiene, they stay in school.

𝐀 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦: This grassroots movement acted as a critical catalyst, proving that menstrual health is not a "women’s issue"—it is a human rights issue, a health issue, and an educational necessity.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: This ruling ensures that "a period should end a sentence, not a girl’s education." By mandating biodegradable pads, the Court also honors the environmental consciousness that activists like Arumita have long advocated for.

𝐀 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬: To every volunteer at Sudhamta Foundation—your years of distributing pads in the heat, your courage in talking about "taboo" topics in conservative circles, and your dedication to the girl child have finally been enshrined in our Constitution.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐍𝐆𝐎𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐒𝐑 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚?

India’s CSR landscape is evolving—and so is the definition of impact. While large institutions have played a vital role in shaping the sector, the future of meaningful, measurable, and human-centric CSR lies increasingly with small, grassroots NGOs.
We started our journey with only 5 people and now we are operating in 13 states to the last mile.

𝟏. 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭
Small NGOs are embedded in the communities they serve. They don’t “enter” communities—they grow within them. This proximity builds trust, cultural understanding, and long-term relationships that no top-down intervention can replicate.

𝟐. 𝐇𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐫-𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥, 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
India’s challenges are not uniform. What works in urban Maharashtra may not work in rural Bengal or the North-East. Small NGOs design context-specific solutions, responding to real needs rather than templated programs.

𝟑. 𝐀𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲
Smaller organisations can pivot faster. They adapt in real time, respond to crises quickly, and innovate without layers of approvals. In a country as dynamic as India, agility is impact.

𝟒. 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 & 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲
With lean teams and direct ex*****on, CSR partners can clearly see where resources are going and what outcomes are being achieved. Impact is visible, traceable, and often measurable at the beneficiary level.

𝟓. 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭
Every rupee matters. Small NGOs operate with minimal overheads, ensuring that a higher percentage of CSR funds reach the ground—directly benefiting people rather than processes.

𝟔. 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭
Corporates increasingly want their teams to connect with the why behind CSR. Small NGOs enable hands-on volunteering, real stories, and lived impact—turning CSR from a compliance exercise into a shared purpose.

On 7th December 2025, Sudhamta Foundation India & Club Fenicia, hosted one of Kolkata’s most heart-warming Cake Mixing Ceremonies, turning a festive tradition into a moment of deep social impact.

As part of , the celebration brought together 30 underprivileged children from EWS communities, children of ragpickers from Kolkata’s slums in Tiljala, giving them a joyful and memorable experience filled with love, laughter, and belonging.
The event was honoured by the presence of distinguished guests who made the day truly special:

Gratitude fills my heart as I look back on the beautiful evening hosted at the Daga House lawns — where stories, memories, and emotions blended under one sky.

It was an honour for Sudhamta Foundation, in association with Alka Jalan Foundation and Ahava Communication, to present a special reading by the legendary Aparna Sen from acclaimed film critic and biographer Padmashri Bhawana Somaaya’s deeply personal memoir, “Farewell Karachi – A Partition Memoir.”
