*World Braille Day-2026,*
National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities , NILD, Kolkata organized a one day awareness program on 4th Jan 2026 on the occasion of World Braille day.

The program was conducted in collaboration with Helen Keller Smriti Vidyamandir, Krishnanagar, Distt. Nadia.
Program was conducted under the guidance of Dr Lalit Narayan, Director,
NILD Kolkata.

Sri Mrinal Kanti Dutta Founder Secretary, Dr Rabindra Nath Mukherjee Vice President, Sri Kamal Kanti Dutta member, Sri Biswajit Ghosh Director Ek Kadam aur, Sri Sajal Debnath Secretary and Sri Swapan Sarkar Principal were present at the inaugural session. Braille reading and Braille writing competition was organized on the occasion. This was followed by lecture and audio video presentation on latest development in Braille. Prizes were given to the winners of the competition.
Around 110 visually impaired children and adults along with staff and faculty members actively participated in the program.

The program was coordinated by NILD , Kolkata, Visual Impairment unit.

NILD, Kolkata organized an awareness program on Awareness programme on the Sexual Harassment of women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 on 31st December, 2025 on hybrid mode for NILD, Kolkata and its regional centers and CRCs.

Dr. Lalit Narayan, Director, NILD inaugurated the program in presence of NILD officials and members of ICC committee. Dr. Lalit Narayan, Director and Ameed Equebal, Asstt. Director (Training) addressed to the participants and the expressed their views about the program and its importance.

Ms. Sibangi Chattopadhyay, Advocate, Smt. Sangeetha Pargunan, Psychologist, VRC, Kolkata and Ms. Tamali Samanta, Advocate were speakers of the program.

Speakers highlighted the Sexual Harassment of women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 and how to keep safe and respectful work environment in the institute.

The programme aimed to promote awareness and sensitivity among NILD Officers , staff and students, approx. 100 participants attended the program and approx 25 participants from CRCs and RCs of NILD, Kolkata through online mode .

"National Commission for Women, Govt. Of India Visit at NILD, Kolkata"

Dr. Archana Majumdar, Member, National Commission for Women, Govt. of India, visited NILD, Kolkata on December 10, 2025. During her visit she had a meeting with Internal Committee ( IC ) members and officers & official of NILD, RC- AYJNISHE(D) AND NIEPID, Kolkata and Reviewed NILD's activities and appreciated services for Divyangjan.

She also interacted with NILD students and PwDs , She motivated and guided them for their carrier and respectful life in the community and society.

An awareness programme on the "Sexual Harassment of women at Work Place" (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act and Maternity Act was also orgnised and madam interacted with students and Employees of NILD, RC- AYJNISHE(D) AND NIEPID, Kolkata during her address she Explained provisions of both acts, promoting awareness and rights.

NILD, Kolkata conducted a National level online CRE on Latest Orthotic Treatment in Cerebral Palsy on 9th December, 2025.

Dr. Lalit Narayan, Director, NILD, Kolkata inaugurated the webinar in presence of Dr. Ameed Equebal, ADT and Dr. P. K. Lenka, HoD, P&O. They highlighted the importance of advanced, evidence-based orthotic interventions for Cerebral Palsy.

Dr. Rajesh Kumar Mohanty, Lecturer (P&O) SVNIRTAR-CUTTACK and Mr. Vidya Bhushan, Lecturer (PT), CRC, Patna were speakers of the webinar.

Vote of Thanks Delivered by Mr. Dhruti Sundar Das, Lecturer (Orthotics) and program coordinated by Mr. Prakash Sahoo, Lecturer (Orthotics), NILD, Kolkata. Total 185 rehabilitation professionals attended the webinar.

On the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities, Kolkata, organized various events on 2nd & 3rd December, 2025. Dr. Lalit Narayan, Director of the Institute, inaugurated the rally and other associated events. In his address; he commended the enthusiastic participation and commitment of the persons with disabilities.
On 2nd December, 2025 an awareness rally, debate competition and quiz competitions were organised for the Divyangjan and students of the institute and on 3rd December, wide range competitions including Fate, Poster, Slogan, Essay, Painting and Mega Games etc. were organised in which more than 2500 participants including Divyangjan , students and employees of NILD and regional centers (AYJNISHD(D) & NIEPID), Kolkata participated enthusiastically.
On 3rd December, 2025, Divyangjan impressed everyone by showcasing their extraordinary talents in vibrant cultural programs. The program was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Pawan Kumar Patodia (CA), Vice President, Special Olympics Bharat and President, Special Olympics, West Bengal, and Special Guest Dr. Siddharth Pandey, Chief Executive Officer, HRD India, Kolkata, who highlighted the talents of the differently-abled individuals and encouraged them. At the end of the program, the Institute's Director and guests honored the winners of various competitions by presenting prizes.
The programme began with lam lighting and welcome address by Shri Sougato Banerjee, Deputy Director (Administration) and concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Shri Alendra Tripathi, Member Secretary, Disability Day Programme.
