National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (Divyangjan) is an apex organization in the area of locomotor disability which came into the service since 1978 as an autonomous body under the ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. It is located in the city Kolkata and expanding its services whole countrywide.

On the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities, Kolkata, organized various events on 2nd & 3rd December, 2025. Dr. Lalit Narayan, Director of the Institute, inaugurated the rally and other associated events. In his address; he commended the enthusiastic participation and commitment of the persons with disabilities.
On 2nd December, 2025 an awareness rally, debate competition and quiz competitions were organised for the Divyangjan and students of the institute and on 3rd December, wide range competitions including Fate, Poster, Slogan, Essay, Painting and Mega Games etc. were organised in which more than 2500 participants including Divyangjan , students and employees of NILD and regional centers (AYJNISHD(D) & NIEPID), Kolkata participated enthusiastically.
On 3rd December, 2025, Divyangjan impressed everyone by showcasing their extraordinary talents in vibrant cultural programs. The program was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Pawan Kumar Patodia (CA), Vice President, Special Olympics Bharat and President, Special Olympics, West Bengal, and Special Guest Dr. Siddharth Pandey, Chief Executive Officer, HRD India, Kolkata, who highlighted the talents of the differently-abled individuals and encouraged them. At the end of the program, the Institute's Director and guests honored the winners of various competitions by presenting prizes.
The programme began with lam lighting and welcome address by Shri Sougato Banerjee, Deputy Director (Administration) and concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Shri Alendra Tripathi, Member Secretary, Disability Day Programme.

The National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (Divyangjan), Kolkata actively participated in the Rojgar Mela–2025, jointly organized by the Government of West Bengal, Department of Women & Child Development & Social Welfare, and the Office of the State Commissioner for PwDs on 2nd and 3rd December 2025 at Rotary Sadan, Kolkata.
Under the guidance of Dr. Lalit Narayan, Director, NILD Kolkata, the Institute set up an informative stall. Mr Nayan Roy Choudhary, Social Worker, along with students of the Community-Based Inclusive Development (CBID) programme, attended the event.

NILD, Kolkata showcased various assistive devices, appliances, teaching–learning materials, and awareness materials, highlighting the Institute’s commitment to promoting accessibility, empowerment, and inclusion for persons with disabilities.

On the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) NILD, Kolkata organized an Awareness Rally for PwDs (Divyangjan), students and staff from RSM Square Near Hind Cinema to Y Channel on 2nd December, 2025. Rally was inaugurated by Dr. Lalit, Narayan, Director, NILD. In awareness Rally approx. more than 500 nos. of Divyangjan, students and staff from National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (Divyangjan), Regional Centers AYJNISHD (D) and NIEPID, Kolkata participated.
Awareness Rally inaugurated by Dr. Lalit Narayan, Director, NILD, Kolkata, in his inaugural address he appreciated the efforts of Divyangjan in the Rally and their contribution. During the Rally Sri Pawan Kr. Patodia (C.A.), Vice President, Special Olympics Bharat, President, Special Olympics Bharat-W.B. Sri Subhash Chandra Agarwal, CMD of Maithan Alloys Ltd., Dr. Siddhartha Pandey Chief Executive Officer,HRD INDIA, Mr. Sumit Agarwal, Brand Ambassador, NILD and Mr. J.S Mehta, Founder and President of Mahavir Seva Sadan (MSS), Kolkata and Dr. Prakash Kumar, Principal, Mahatma Gandhi OT College, Jaipur were present.
Debate, Quiz, Essay Poster, Slogan, and Sit & Draw competitions, Street Play, Fete, Mega Sports and cultural program are being organized for PwDs (Divyangjan), Patients & Students are being organised on 2nd and 3rd December, 2025.

Sri S. Govindaraj, Commissioner, Persons with Disabilities visited NILD, Kolkata on 01st December, 2025.

Dr. Lalit Narayan Director-NILD welcomed Sri Govindaraj with other officials of NILD.

During his visit Sri Govindaraj reviewed the activities of NILD and appreciated the services and activities of NILD.

Sri Govindaraj during the visit he also visited RC-AYJNISHD and RC-NIEPID, Dr. Suman Kumar, Director, AYJNSHD(D) and Sri Dasarath Choudhury, Incharge RC-NIEPID welcomed Sri Govindaraj, CCPD at Regional Centre.

SEMINAR ON PAIN MANAGEMENT IN REHABILITATION
NILD, Kolkata organized a two days Seminar on Pain Management in Rehabilitation in collaboration with the Department of PMR, NRS Medical College, Kolkata on 28th and 29th November 2025 at NILD Auditorium.

Seminar inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Vinod Aggarwal, IAS (Retd.), GC Member, NILD & Former Secretary, DEPwD, MOSJE, Govt. of India in presence of Dr. Lalit Narayan, Director, NILD, Kolkata, Dr.Soumen De, Associate Professor, PMR, NRS Medical College, Sougato Banerjee, Deputy Direpctor (Admin), NILD Mrs. Manda Chauhan, Associate professor & HoD (Physiotherapy), PDUNIPPD, New Delhi and Mr. Pravin Kumar, HoD (Physiotherapy), NILD, Kolkata.

Dr. Lalit Narayan, Director, NILD was the Patron of the seminar and Dr. Ameed Equebal, Asstt. Director (Training), NILD was the coordinator of the program.

Seminar on Pain Management in Rehabilitation was good platform for clinicians and students for a highly enriching academic experience. A total of 100 participants attended the programme.

NILD, Kolkata participated in India International Trade Fair-2025 from 14th to 27th November, 2025 and set up awareness cm activity stall, showcased various initiatives and services for Divyangjan. Senior officials of DEPWD, MOSJE, Govt. of India, Directors of National Institutes, Chief Commissioner of PwD, New Delhi along with their officials and other visitors visited NILD stall and appreciated the activities of NILD.

During the IITF-2025 institute set up awareness cm activity stall in IITF-2025 in the guidance of Dr. Lalit Narayan, Director, NILD, Kolkata in attractive manner with awareness materials and installed a Foot Scanner & Pressure Mapping Machine and providing Free Assessment of Feet for visitors by NILD P&O professional. Different activities for cognitive impaired including logical reasoning & aptitude and application of adaptive aids demonstrated by Occupational Therapy professionals.
