Our dear junior/senior/friend Dr. Goutam Mahati, Medicos 2008, NRS Medical College & Hospital, MD Psychiatry from IOP-COE, IPGMER (2016-2019), currently working as Senior Resident in Ghatal SDH met with an unfortunate accident near Ghatal, his workplace.
He is currently undergoing treatment in Apollo Glenegales Hospital, Kolkata for Grade 4 HEPATIC INJURY and CLAVICLE and SCAPULA fracture. A HEPATICOJEJUNOSTOMY is planned in the near future.
We are contributing as much as we can to help him in getting well soon and flourish as a wonderful Psychiatrist.

Today in the history of medicine:

12th April, 1955 – The polio vaccine, developed by Dr. Jonas Salk, is declared safe and effective.

Until 1955, when the Salk vaccine was introduced, polio was considered the most frightening public health problem of the post-war United States. Annual epidemics were increasingly devastating.

The field trial set up to test the Salk vaccine was, according to O'Neill, "the most elaborate program of its kind in history, involving 20,000 physicians and public health officers, 64,000 school personnel, and 220,000 volunteers." Over 1,800,000 school children took part in the trial. When news of the vaccine's success was made public on April 12, 1955, Salk was hailed as a "miracle worker" and the day almost became a national holiday.

His sole focus had been to develop a safe and effective vaccine as rapidly as possible, with no interest in personal profit. When he was asked in a televised interview who owned the patent to the vaccine, Salk replied: "There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?"

Eye signs related to Cardiovascular examination:

1. Pallor: sign of anaemia may due to:
a_decrease Cop in left ventricle dysfunction
b_ anaemia of chronic illness
c_ hemolytic anaemia in case of prosthatic valve

2. jaundice: due to
cardiac cirrhosis

3. Subconjuctival haemorrhage due to infective endocarditis

4.xanthelasma: on eye lid indicate hyperlipidaemia which is major risk factor for ischaemic heart disease!
