On 5th Sept evening, Dr Debasis Basu attended the scientific discussion on TAVR at Raj Kuthir, Swabhumi. He was a part of the Panel discussion that was moderated by eminent interventional cardiologist & Director of Cath Lab of Manipal Hospital, Dr Dilip Kumar while another luminary stalwart in Interventional Cardiology and Head of Cardiology Services of Manipal Hospital, Prof. Dr Rabin Chakroborty delivered the keynote address with usual charismatic flair and sparkling enthusiasm.
Dr. Dilip Kumar, the principal architect behind this epoch making historical records in the making on the map of Bengal with TAVR narrated his tedious work and acknowledged the able support of his colleagues( in the team) and very passionately mentioned the names of his two main mentors, Prof. Dr. Rabin Chakraborty and Dr. Kunal Sarkar, a number of times.
All three eminent names mentioned in the domain of cardiology had been dear colleagues of Dr. Basu at some point in time during their careers and the three of them present in the event made an interesting impression on the audience as their presence together made the session hugely appreciative & interactive.
Well, TAVR stands for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement - a procedure to treat narrowed aortic valve ( aortic valve stenosis). At the session, Dr Basu highlighted the importance of early diagnosis & raising public awareness on TAVR, a peer group supported registry and dedicated team for Cardiac Rehabilitation services. Dr Basu also stressed on the visionary role that the the cardiac surgeons can and do play from the common shared decision making platform as exemplified on numerous occasions by the leading name of the discipline, Dr. Kunal Sarkar so that the patients can find it easy to choose the optimally best option suited for an individual.
