*REBUILDING TRUST? OR REWRITING BLAME - A WBDF STATEMENT*
Fraud in healthcare must be punished — but blaming doctors will not fix a broken system.
India’s healthcare crisis is not caused by “overtreatment”.
It is caused by shortage - of well equipped hospitals, appropriate manpower, medicines, and public funding.
The BCG-Medi Assist report reduces medicine to billing, turns clinical judgement into “deviation”, and promotes insurer surveillance as “trust”. This is policy inversion: insurers fund barely 13% of care, yet are made moral arbiters; doctors become suspects.
What the report ignores:
• underfunded public hospitals
• workforce shortages
• out-of-pocket suffering
• insurer denials and delays
• absence of accountability for wrongful claim rejection
Trust cannot be audited into existence.
It is built through strong public healthcare, fair financing, and clinical autonomy — not algorithms and suspicion.
WBDF demands reform that repairs the system, not persecutes the profession.
Healthcare is not a transaction.
Doctors are not cost centres.
Patients are not risk scores.
Build care — not control.
