*REBUILDING TRUST? OR REWRITING BLAME - A WBDF STATEMENT*

Fraud in healthcare must be punished — but blaming doctors will not fix a broken system.

India’s healthcare crisis is not caused by “overtreatment”.
It is caused by shortage - of well equipped hospitals, appropriate manpower, medicines, and public funding.

The BCG-Medi Assist report reduces medicine to billing, turns clinical judgement into “deviation”, and promotes insurer surveillance as “trust”. This is policy inversion: insurers fund barely 13% of care, yet are made moral arbiters; doctors become suspects.

What the report ignores:
• underfunded public hospitals
• workforce shortages
• out-of-pocket suffering
• insurer denials and delays
• absence of accountability for wrongful claim rejection

Trust cannot be audited into existence.
It is built through strong public healthcare, fair financing, and clinical autonomy — not algorithms and suspicion.

WBDF demands reform that repairs the system, not persecutes the profession.

Healthcare is not a transaction.
Doctors are not cost centres.
Patients are not risk scores.

Build care — not control.

*Bail to Uluberia Accused: State Patronage of Violence Exposed*

WBDF condemns the granting of bail to the accused who threatened a lady doctor with rape and murder inside Uluberia Medical College. This is not a routine legal lapse - *it is institutional betrayal.*

In a state where healthcare workers are assaulted, and perpetrators walk free, a dangerous truth is emerging:
*criminals feel protected, not prosecuted.*

The pattern is no longer deniable. Violent offenders operate with confidence because they believe political power shields them. When investigations are weak, prosecution is lazy, and accountability is absent, the message is simple:

*West Bengal is becoming a safe haven for criminals - and a war zone for doctors.*

*This is not governance. This is complicity by silence and survival by intimidation.*

We demand:
• Immediate challenge to the bail order
• Fast-track prosecution
• Security for the victim doctor
• Accountability for police and prosecution failures
• A public audit of political interference in criminal cases involving hospital violence

Doctors will not accept a state where attackers roam free and victims live in fear.

*If the government will not protect us, it stands exposed - not as administrator, but as enabler.*

ANOTHER LADY DOCTOR ON DUTY BRUTALLY ASSAULTED - HOW MUCH LONGER WILL THE STATE REMAIN A SPECTATOR?

West Bengal Doctors Forum expresses its deep outrage and unreserved condemnation over the assault, humiliation and sexually perverse threats inflicted upon Dr. L***, Senior Resident, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, at Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Government Medical College & Hospital, Uluberia, on the evening of 20 October 2025.

This is not an isolated crime - this is the symptom of total lawlessness that has gripped our healthcare system. Hospitals in West Bengal have turned into unsafe war zones where doctors, nurses, and staff serve under constant fear.
The so-called “security system” in government hospitals is a mockery - non-existent, toothless, and complicit.

What is even more horrifying is the reported involvement of police personnel among those main accused. When those sworn to uphold the law become part of the mob, it exposes the complete moral and administrative collapse of the state apparatus.

Let there be no mistake -
- The Government of West Bengal has failed.
- The police have failed.
- The judiciary has failed.
- The entire administrative machinery has betrayed its doctors.

Every such incident deepens the wound, erodes faith, and pushes healthcare closer to paralysis. No civilised society can expect doctors to serve under terror.

We demand immediate and visible action — not hollow statements:
1. Post arrest of all criminals they must face exemplary prosecution, including the police personnel involved.
2. A high-level judicial inquiry to expose and punish systemic negligence in hospital security.
3. Permanent, armed, accountable security presence in all government hospitals.

WBDF stands firmly with the assaulted doctor and all medical professionals who face abuse and violence while serving the people.
If the state remains deaf and blind, the day is not far when West Bengal’s hospitals will fall silent - not from lack of patients, but from the silence of doctors who refuse to die at their workplace.

We will not be intimidated. We will not be silenced. We will not forget.
