Kolkata Sanved is a women-led pioneer in the field of dance movement therapy (DMT) for healing, empowerment & psycho-social rehabilitation of marginalised populations. We use DMT as a tool for promoting holistic well-being & enhancement of quality of life. Founded in 2004 by Ashoka Fellow Dr. Sohini Chakraborty, a sociologist and dance activist, Kolkata Sanved has expanded the notions of dance and traditional rehabilitation programs. Through our groundbreaking program, survivors of trafficking and violence release trauma, develop confidence and identify their own potentials as human beings rather than as victims. At its core, the program allows survivors to develop specific life-skills important for their reintegration through a non-threatening and culturally familiar medium.

Grateful for the care, trust, and community that moves with us.
Season’s greetings and warm wishes to everyone from Kolkata Sanved. ✨

31/12/2025

As we closed the year at Kolkata Sanved, we chose to pause, not to plan faster, but to listen deeper.

Before targets and timelines, we reflected on something essential: that organisations are not sustained by strategies alone, but by people who are carrying dreams, values, wounds, hopes, and intention.

Through a Vision Board for Life session, facilitated by Dr. Arna Seal, we explored what happens when personal purpose connects with organisational purpose.

What emerged was powerful:
a deeper sense of belonging,
greater integrity between who we are and what we do,
and a collective commitment, not just to our work, but to our life practices.

This is how we choose to end the year:
with vision, meaning, and care, from the inside out. 🩷

Strengthening Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) and Creative Arts Therapy (CAT) in Rajasthan

As part of our five-year journey in the state, Kolkata Sanved brought together partners and collaborators in Jaipur for our first learning and sharing meet of this phase.
Together with GSK, Azad Foundation, and Vishakha, we reflected on our collective work, explored insights from the Impact Review Report, and charted the way forward for deeper, community-led mental health support.

In the next months, we’ll continue these conversations across the seven states where we work, expanding partnerships, nurturing local leadership, and building a community-based group of DMT practitioners in Rajasthan.

Here’s to movement, care, and collective learning reaching every community that needs it. 💛

Violence doesn’t begin with the body — it often begins in silence, in fear, in digital spaces where harm is unseen but deeply felt.
On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we stand with survivors and commit to breaking every form of violence — online and offline.

At Kolkata Sanved, we use movement, expression, and community support to rebuild agency, resilience, and healing for women and girls.
Because every woman deserves safety. Everywhere. Always.

We are delighted to announce our collaboration with Royal Global University, Guwahati, Assam, in partnership with the Department of Psychology, Royal School of Behavioural and Allied Sciences.

Through this collaboration, we introduced a 30-hour, 2-credit Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) programme for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. This marks a meaningful step in integrating DMT into mainstream behavioural science education.

At Kolkata Sanved, we are happy that our Sampoornata Model and methodology are being recognised and incorporated as significant components of behavioural science studies—grounded in experiential pedagogy, non-verbal communication, and the body–mind connection.

We look forward to many more such collaborations that strengthen creative wellbeing and broaden the reach of DMT across academic spaces.
