How Your Gut Affects Your Brain — Join Our Upcoming Seminar

Did you know that your gut health can affect your brain?
This upcoming seminar will explain how changes in the gut microbiome—the community of bacteria in your digestive system—may play a role in conditions like Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

We’ll talk about how diet, medications, toxins, infections, and other factors can damage the gut lining and cause a “leaky gut.” This can lead to a range of digestive, neurological, and overall health problems.

You’ll also learn how a leaky gut may trigger changes in the brain, such as the misfolding of alpha-synuclein, and what steps can be taken to help prevent or manage these effects.

This is a must-see seminar for anyone living with Parkinson’s, degenerative parkinsonism, or Alzheimer’s disease—and for caregivers who want to better understand how gut health can support brain health.

📣 Today is

To mark the day, we're proud to share Barbara Salsberg Mathews' illustrations reimagining the Five Stages of Parkinson's. Released today, these six new images feature a diverse range of young men, to raise awareness of the fact that Parkinson's affects people of all ages and backgrounds.

The illustrations include men of different ethnicities, with some based on real-life men in the public eye who are living with Parkinson's: actor and activist Michael J Fox, boxer Mohammed Ali, and fitness influencer and American Ninja Warrior star Jimmy Choi.

Are you a spouse, family member, friend or supporter of someone with Parkinson's?

We're here to help with another online information and support session. It's by carers, for carers.

🗓️ Thursday 30 October 2025
🕙 2pm
💻 Zoom

We’ll hear from other Parkinson's family members, friends and supporters about what has helped them to manage the Parkinson's diagnosis moving forward. We’ll also be joined by a Parkinson's Local Adviser who will talk about their role and how they can help. Then, after a comfort break, you can ask questions and access peer support informally.

It can be difficult to discuss how Parkinson’s has impacted on you in front of people with Parkinson’s, so please note this session is only open to family
members, friends, supporters and carers.

You can register here to take part ➡️ prksn.uk/3KWExrT

You can also email cmacmillan@parkinsons.org.uk or call 0300 123 3679.
