Part 4.

There are various coaching classes who teach Yoga. It is obvious to do Yogamudra in its right technical way to get the best benefit of it. Yoga is a science and so it has its own rules. India has the tradition of giving invaluable gifts to the world. Our biggest gifts range from ‘zero’ in ancient times to the “Mars Mission” in 21st century. While Corona is threatening the world in a big way, Yoga has turned out as a ray of hope and cure.
Yoga is the shining jewel of Indian crown. It existed in the country even before there were any Gym cultures in today’s developed countries. This shows how our traditions were ahead of time. We understand it better today when the world has to follow Namaste culture rather than the handshake! Our country has given me number of reason to be proud as an Indian, and Yoga is one of them, for sure!
It’s truly said that yoga is an artwork of awareness on canvas of body, mind and soul. So let’s all practice yoga and make our canvases glow!

Part 3.

In this pandemic of Covid-19, the world is again accepting the tradition of Yoga as one of the remedies. Yoga just does not change the way we see things, it also transforms the person who sees it! For me, Yoga is:
Y: Yield
O: Orientation
G: gain
A: Achievement
So it’s altogether a gaining thing only. Sparing time for yoga is investing time for your health, gaining positivity. Yoga is not just a physical or mental exercise, it is a medicine. It is a healing device. It prevents illness and helps to overcome illnesses. I only could realize it once I started doing the practices regularly and I am very proud that Yoga is now an inseparable part of my life.
I am a student of MBBS and medically I can put it as easy as this: Yoga lowers stress hormones that comprise immune system also conditioning lungs and respiratory tract stimulating lymphatic system to oust toxins from body, bringing oxygenated blood to all organs improving their functioning, thus, efficiently fighting or removing any ill-substance. Yoga covers everything.
Yoga has various Asanas with different benefits. For example Kurmasana (tortoise pose) supports thymus. Thymus renders T-cell which forms basic cells of immune response. AdhoMukha Shavasana (downward - facing dog) encourages blood flow through sinuses. These poses focus immune system on sinuses, thus, preventing complications of severe infections by draining the lungs whilst also easing the congestion.
In cases of fever, sitting in Sukhasana with backs or side of hands resting on knees, thumbs and index fingers touching in gyan mudra and breathing with tongue out for a minimum of three minutes will reduce temperature.
Since flu and cold attack bronchial passages, thus, conditioning the lungs and maximizing one’s breathing capacity through Prayanama would build resistance to preying organisms. Fast breathing like Kapal-bhati increases the resistance of respiratory tract and alternate nostril breathing increases resistance of one’s sinuses. Researchers have shown that just 20 min of meditation a day increases endorphins, decreases cortisol levels and fosters a positive state of mind to promote better health.

Part 2...
Although it is not as simple as it sounds. It requires dedication, concentration and hours of practice. How could we be away from our phone and do nothing but breathe deeply with our eyes closed, right? Sounded little hard to me too! But as I had nothing to do, I thought of giving it a shot. My mom had done yoga classes and she could never stop listing its benefit to me. Although I did not believe a word until I decided to try it myself! I started with basic breathing exercises called Hatha Yoga including Prayanama and Surya Namaskar, slowly progressing it to Vinayasa Yoga. My favorite is Padmasan and chanting Oum as you release your deep breath. Simply sitting there with eyes closed makes you forget all your worries. Oum attracts positive energy. It gives you good vibes and makes one more optimistic towards everything in life. It makes one feel real peace. And the more I practiced it, the more I became interested in it. Now if anyone would ask me, I would any day recommend Yoga over gym. Not only it keeps us physically healthy but also improves our mental health to great extent. During tough times like these when even gyms have been closed, Yoga can be self practiced. Also sitting entire day at home, it comes as a handy way of staying fit and avoiding post-cororna complications which could be obesity! It helps in keeping negative thoughts away.
Yoga takes you to present moment, the only place where life exists. It improves our respiratory, GIT and cardiac systems bringing a balance in body functions. And very importantly, it builds our immune system, thus, helping our body cells fighting the virus. Breathing exercise supplies proper oxygen to tissues and brain thus increasing productivity. It increases flexibility and helps to cope up with the stress of the virus. It increases energy and makes you feel good about your body.
There may be many other ways to raise immunity, but I feel Yoga can be a great solution to being healthy 24x7.
Yoga is our gift to the world. It is routed in our Vedic parampara, now acknowledged worldwide and acknowledged by the celebration of International Day of Yoga.
