*DH Kulgam conducts its first ever successful total Hip replacement surgery under AB-PMJAY Ayushman Bharat scheme)* Kulgam, 24 March 2025: *A Team of Doctors from District Hospital Kulgam conducted its first total Hip replacement surgery under ayushman Bharat scheme.* The surgery team was headed by *Dr Towseef Ahmad Bhat, Consultant orthopaedican* and assisted by Dr Abid & Dr Danish. The Anaesthesia and Critical team Support was headed by Dr Omer Bashir Consultant Anaesthesia in addition to technicians including Shabir Ahmad, Rifat Abdullah, Farooq Ahmad & other supporting staff. The entire process was done under the supervision of *Dr A G Raina, Medical superintendent DH Kulgam* who provided all logistic and moral support. The operated patient was a 47 year old female - a case of severe osteoarthritis right hip with pain and difficulty in walking. It is important to mention that such surgical procedures costs about Rs 2 to 2.5 lac in private setup but it was done under AB -PMJAY at free of cost.

First successful L5S1 transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF ) spine surgery performed at District Hospital Kulgam.

Department of Orthopedics District Hospital Kulgam achieved a new milestone by performing a successful L5 S1 TLIF ( trans foraminal lumbar interbody fusion) surgery.

Team of orthopedic surgeons lead by consultant Orthopedics Dr Towseef Ahmad Bhat successfully performed TLIF L5 S1 on a 33 year old female patient suffering from L5 S1 spondylolisthesis causing severe pain in her back and left lower limb. After the surgery patient is recovering well and has shown significant relief in her symptoms.

Ayushman Bharat scheme which otherwise would have costed her 2.5 to 3 lakhs.
