What is a Ganglion cyst ?

Ganglion cysts are noncancerous lumps that most commonly develop along the tendons or joints of your wrists or hands. They may also occur in the ankles and feet. Ganglion cysts are typically round or oval and are filled with a jellylike fluid.

Small ganglion cysts can be pea-sized, while larger ones can be around an inch (2.5 centimeters) in diameter.

Ganglion cysts can be painful if they press on a nearby nerve. Their location can sometimes interfere with joint movement.

If your ganglion cyst is causing you problems, your doctor may suggest trying to drain the cyst with a needle. Removing the cyst surgically also is an option.

Spondylolisthesis is a condition involving spine instability, which means the vertebrae move more than they should. A vertebra slips out of place onto the vertebra below. It may put pressure on a nerve, which could cause lower back pain or leg pain.

What are the types of spondylolisthesis?

Types of spondylolisthesis include:

-Congenital spondylolisthesis occurs when a baby’s spine doesn’t form the way it should before birth. The misaligned vertebrae put the person at risk for slippage later in life.
-Isthmic spondylolisthesis happens as a result of spondylolysis. The crack or fracture weakens the bone.
-Degenerative spondylolisthesis, the most common type, happens due to aging. Over time, the disks that cushion the vertebrae lose water. As the disks thin, they are more likely to slip out of place.

Less common types of spondylolisthesis include:

-Traumatic spondylolisthesis happens when an injury causes vertebrae to slip.
-Pathological spondylolisthesis occurs when a disease — such as osteoporosis — or tumor causes the condition.
-Post-surgical spondylolisthesis is slippage as a result of spinal surgery.

Will I need surgery for spondylolisthesis?

Your Orthopedician will start with nonsurgical options, such as rest and physical therapy. These treatments often relieve symptoms. You may require surgery if you:
1. Have high-grade spondylolisthesis.
2. Experience severe pain.
3. Tried nonsurgical treatments but still have symptoms.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder affecting many joints, including those in the hands and feet.
In rheumatoid arthritis, the body's immune system attacks its own tissue, including joints. In severe cases, it attacks internal organs. Early signs of RA include joint problems, such as pain, tenderness, swelling, warmth, redness, and stiffness. Additional signs include fatigue, malaise, loss of range of motion, limping, anemia, low-grade fever, disease symmetry, and multiple affected joints.

What is Fibromyalgia ?

Fibromyalgia causes widespread pain, fatigue, and other types of discomfort. Symptoms resemble those of arthritis, but fibromyalgia affects the soft tissue, not the joints.
The cause is unknown, but risk factors include traumatic injury, rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune disorders, such as lupus, and genetic factors.

Common symptoms include:

-widespread pain

-jaw pain and stiffness

-pain and tiredness in the face muscles and adjacent fibrous tissues

-stiff joints and muscles in the morning

-headaches

-irregular sleep patterns

-irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

-painful menstrual periods

-tingling and numbness in the hands and feet

-restless leg syndrome (RLS)

-sensitivity to cold or heat

-difficulties with memory and concentration, known as “fibro-fog”

-fatigue

Medical attention is needed because fibromyalgia can be difficult to manage. As it is a syndrome, each patient will experience a different set of symptoms, and an individual treatment plan will be necessary.

What is a knee replacement surgery?
Knee replacement, also called knee arthroplasty or total knee replacement, is a surgical procedure to resurface a knee damaged by arthritis. Metal and plastic parts are used to cap the ends of the bones that form the knee joint, along with the kneecap. This surgery may be considered for someone who has severe arthritis or a severe knee injury.

Various types of arthritis may affect the knee joint. Osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease that affects mostly middle-aged and older adults, may cause the breakdown of joint cartilage and adjacent bone in the knees. Rheumatoid arthritis, which causes inflammation of the synovial membrane and results in excessive synovial fluid, can lead to pain and stiffness. Traumatic arthritis, arthritis due to injury, may cause damage to the cartilage of the knee.

The goal of knee replacement surgery is to resurface the parts of the knee joint that have been damaged and to relieve knee pain that cannot be controlled by other treatments.

What is a pulled elbow?
A pulled elbow typically results from a sudden pull on an extended arm. The medical term for the injury is "radial head subluxation."
It is a common injury of early childhood, because a young child's bones and muscles are still developing, it typically takes very little force to pull the bones of the elbow partially out of place. It occurs most often in children aged 1 to 4, but can happen any time from birth up to age 6 or 7 years old.
Although the injury may cause initial pain, an Orthopaedician can easily reset the elbow, quickly relieving any discomfort and restoring arm movement.

Patellar (kneecap) fracture

A patellar fracture is a break in the patella, or kneecap, the small bone that sits at the front of your knee. Because the patella acts as a shield for your knee joint, it is vulnerable to fracture if you fall directly onto your knee or hit it against the dashboard in a vehicle collision. A patellar fracture is a serious injury that can make it difficult or even impossible to straighten your knee or walk.
Some simple patellar fractures can be treated by wearing a cast or splint until the bone heals. In most patellar fractures, however, the pieces of bone move out of place when the injury occurs. For these more complicated fractures, surgery is needed to restore and stabilize the kneecap and allow for the return of function.
