Saffron, with its warm, spicy, and rich aroma, finds its way into a variety of applications—ranging from Fine Fragrances, Body Care, Flavors, and Aromatherapy, to much more.

In the world of 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀, Saffron stands out for its ability to enhance dishes with its taste and aroma. Its warm and slightly sweet profile adds depth and richness, making it a prized ingredient in gourmet cooking.

However, Saffron's most treasured form is its 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗶𝗹—pure, potent, and luxurious. Extracted through a complex and labour-intensive process, saffron oil carries the full essence of the spice, making it a sought-after ingredient in Aromatherapy and Body Care.

The journey of saffron oil begins with the careful harvesting of the deep-red stigmas from the crocus flower. In India, 𝟵𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻 is cultivated in the Kashmir Valley, a region known for producing the finest quality saffron for centuries.

Once harvested, the delicate stigmas are carefully dried. To extract the oil, they undergo a 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 process where the saffron threads are steeped in water. The resulting steam is condensed, yielding a small amount of precious saffron oil.

It takes approximately 𝟭𝟱𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 to produce just one kilogram of saffron oil. This labour-intensive process, coupled with saffron’s rarity, makes it one of the most expensive and highly coveted oils in the world.

Patchouli essential oil, a cornerstone of perfumery especially in modern ambers and orientals, boasts a complex and intriguing fragrance profile lending a heady richness to fragrances. It is the most powerful of any plant-derived essence and needs to be handled with care.

𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝗪𝗲 𝗗𝗼 𝗜𝘁

Rose Water has been a cherished fragrance used over the world in spiritual, religious and cosmetic applications for centuries.

In India, especially, it has been a part of our rituals and tradition since as long as one can remember. From the traditional Deg and Bhapka method to the modern Steam Distillation Method, various techniques have been in use to procure its purity.

At RSF, the method that we employ is the 𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙙 for its two-pronged advantage of fuel efficiency and yield per batch.

Heres’ how it works:

It begins with Harvesting fresh petals, usually from Rose Damascena or Rose Centifolia which is preferably done in the morning when their oil content is at its peak.

The main process of rose water procurement starts with Steam Distillation. The petals are first prepared by adding the them to a distillation pot whose bottom is filled with water.

Thereafter, the water is heated to produce steam which passes through the rose petals. What this does is cause the volatile oils and aromatic compounds in the petals to evaporate with the steam, capturing the rose essence.

Now this is where the magic happens — in the process of Condensation, the steam containing this essence is passed through a cooling system that cools the vapour back into liquid form.

This nectar contains two components:
Rose Essential Oil which floats on top because of its heavier density, and
Rose Water which is the aromatic water (hydrosol) containing water-soluble elements of rose petals — the liquid we’re after!

To make it ready for use, we thoroughly and meticulously filter the impurities after separating it from the essential oil.
