Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, is one of India’s premier medical institutions, known for its advanced patient care, research, and postgraduate training in super-specialties. Established in 1983 under the State Legislature Act, it functions as an autonomous university offering postgraduate and doctoral medical education.
Overview
SGPGI is situated on Raebareli Road, about 14 km south of Lucknow’s city center, and occupies over 650 acres of lush green campus equipped with residential, academic, and hospital blocks.
The institute offers DM, MCh, MD, and PhD programs, as well as postdoctoral certificate and fellowship courses in various medical specialties. It is accredited with an A++ grade by NAAC and ranked 6th in India among medical institutions by NIRF 2024.
The institute also pioneers medical IT infrastructure—being one of India’s first government hospitals to implement Oracle-based Hospital Information Systems and Telemedicine integration.
