The role of a neurologist in caring for patients and their families suffering with Brain tumours is growing. From diagnosis, counseling, helping with critical care, managing the side effects of chemotherapy, seizure management, palliative care and rehabilitation.

I gave a talk on Brain cancer as part of conference on “Cancer a growing concern” at the Gaiety hall, the Mall, Shimla organized by Shimla Sanitorium Hospital.

The Chief Guest was Mr. Shiv Pratap Shukla , Hon. Governor Himachal Pradesh

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/Motor Neuron Disease is a condition with a rapid downhill course. Thousands of patients in India suffer from this condition.

Only two of the five currently approved therapies are available in India. The newer drugs are priced exorbitantly.

There is an urgent need for Indian ALS/MND stakeholders to join forces and design clinical trials for our patients.

16 patients die each day of this disease

To path to find a cure is
1. Spread awareness among all stakeholders
2. Build national, regional and state registries
3. Raise corpus of funds to support scientists and clinicians committed to finding a cure
4. Establish clinical trial platform for India and South East Asia
5. Begin with drug repurposing studies followed drug discovery and gene therapy
6. Participate in Clinical Trials
7. Establish Centers of excellence in ALS/MND for multidisciplinary care and research

The bed rock of any healthcare service are the and and . We all play our respective roles. Each one working in perfect harmony with the other.

Sister Sheila Paul looked after the nursing care in the Neurology department for as long as I can remember. She cared for each of the nursing staff like a mother and partnered with the doctors in implementing the care plan.

Today is her last working day at CMC. While it is sad to see her go she has left a strong team behind who will continue to walk in her foot steps.
May God bless all her future endeavors!

4000 students are taught by 300 teachers in a Al-Falah Public School at Malerkotla, Punjab.
Spent a day educating the teachers on muscular dystrophy. To identify a child in the community early, it is pertinent to the educated.
The principal, vice principal and trustees were very supportive and the teachers had several questions. It was morning well spent and I trust it will help many children in days to come.
