Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year in India. January 15 marks the day when Field Marshal KM Cariappa (then a Lieutenant General) took over the charge of the Indian Army from British General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India in 1949.

Army Day is observed to salute the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country and its citizens.
