It all started with attempting to recreate the chicken soup with mushrooms and cavatappi recipe photocopied from a Ladies Home Journal when she was a young Architecture student in Pune. After graduating with a degree in Architecture and a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from UT Austin, Aparna worked with Jacobs Engineering, a multinational consulting firm for 10 years, first in the United States and then in India. Her job as a consultant took her to every corner of the US where she found herself cooking and recreating many dishes from all the amazing world cuisines she was able to taste on her travels. A short stay in Korea in 2010 was her culinary dream trip. It was rapidly becoming obvious that she was obsessing more about the right percentage of acidity in her Nuoc Cham rather than her reports and excel spreadsheets. There had to be a better way to use her eye for detail, artistic sensibilities and self-taught culinary skills. Aparna took a giant leap of faith, said goodbye to her job and founded Peckish in October 2015.

Nine years ago, I took the road less traveled, quitting my stable job to pursue my passion for food. So grateful for my friends who stood firmly by me and helped me make the transition. It’s been an incredible journey – hosting pop-up lunches, to establishing myself as a food stylist. And recently, I embarked on a thrilling 100-day culinary adventure across India!

(Almost) One hundred days, countless meals, and unforgettable experiences later, I’m filled with gratitude. I discovered the richness of Indian cuisine, from spicy street food to regional specialties. I met fellow foodies, shared stories, and made memories.

Taking that initial leap of faith opened doors to experiences I never thought possible. If you’re considering taking a chance, remember – growth happens outside your comfort zone. Take the leap, expand your palate and savor the flavors of life!

A few weeks back, I received a package with a new product from - Keto Protein Bars! There were two flavors, Coconut and Chocolate. They were both satisfyingly nutty and delicious and had a comparable amount of protein to any other protein bar available in the market but without the excessive carbs. What made them all the more delicious for me was the fact that they are made with Desi Ghee and yes, I could taste that in every bite. This could be a good product to have in your bag for that time when it’s difficult to find a meal or when you want easy access to something sweet. Thanks and !! ♥️♥️♥️

A little Monday morning indulgence after a late night, three hours of sleep and a killer leg workout - Scrambled Eggs & Smoked Salmon on Toast. I don’t usually eat breakfast but on days that I do, I try to make it special. 🥰

Toast a slice of almond bread. Apply a nice layer of cream cheese. Scramble two eggs in ghee. Layer the scrambled eggs on top of the cream cheese and top with thin slices of smoked salmon. Sprinkle some salt, pepper and chilli flakes. Garnish with something cute, edible and green. Serve on your foraged bone china plate that is one of the last remnants from your grandma’s tea set. Enjoy!

There’s so much inspiration to be found all around you. Just open your mind and be willing to expand your palate. Have you heard that one before?! 😁 Saw a beautiful recipe for Mushroom Fried Rice on which promised to be addictive. Tried to make it low carb and it worked! Here we have Keto Mushroom Fried “Rice” made with four kinds of mushrooms and cauliflower rice. It was simple and delicious. 💛 And yes, most certainly addictive as promised.

Erm, of course, I’ve paid for these mushrooms. 🍄That was just me being a bit transcendental! 😅 Any guesses as to what’s cooking?!

Shorshe Katla - Katla fish in mustard sauce using ‘s mother’s recipe which I found on her blog. There was yet another foray into the special Bengali section of my fish market. They didn’t remember me being there in September last year, looking for Hilsa but leaving with Rohu. 😅 I once again got strange looks for asking for their suggestion on which fish would go with a mustard sauce. One of the fishmongers said he’s have to bring some from home for me to try. 😆 Finally settled on half of a ginormous but very good looking Katla. 🐟💛 Promises were made about shelling out mucho dinero for the Ilish next time! 🤝 And this recipe!! What can I say? It’s astounding to get this much flavor from such few ingredients. Don’t believe me. Try it for yourself. And thank you, Rhea!! 💛💛💛

Silken, luscious Nihari, perfectly spiced, this one is the Buff Nihari that I ordered from yesterday. Shoeb was kind enough to give me some extra marrow because I’d told him that I love marrow. A slight concession was made to Keto 😅(Nihari is usually thickened with Atta) but I ate mine for breakfast today (just like the Mughal nobles!) along with a couple of slices of almond bread (I said SLIGHT concession!). A squeeze of lime and I was drinking this straight from the bowl. 😎 Someone who has four legs, one tail and always wants all my food helped me polish off one entire portion. No more food needed all day. 😬Good stuff! 👍

I think these Alfalfa sprouts are making my ham and cheese TOO healthy!! 😋 Still, on occasion, one needs to tolerate a healthy dose of important vitamins and minerals that comes in such a low-calorie, nutrient-dense package, no?

Sandwich is made with two slices of almond flour bread, 1 teaspoon mayo, two slices of ham, a slice of cheese and a tolerable amount of alfalfa sprouts. Can you tell how much I love them?! 😝

Water Spinach Stir Fry with Bacon. Also known as नळीची भाजी (Nalichi Bhaaji) in Marathi, this Raan Bhaaji is a foraged vegetable available in the rainy season. Highly nutritious and very delicious, don’t miss a chance to make it if you happen to come across it in your local market.

Wash and chop the greens into bite sized pieces. In a hot pan, add a tablespoon of olive oil and to this add a generous spoon of minced garlic, a dash of hing and a couple of chopped green chillies. Add the chopped greens and stir fry only until they wilt. Add salt to taste. Serve hot topped with some tasty crumbled bacon if you wish. It will only make this whole production tastier. Because it’s bacon. And is there a single thing that is not enhanced by adding bacon?! 😋♥️🥓
