Napier described the hand as "an organ of touch which feels round corners and sees in the dark". A functioning sense of touch creates a base for the use of the hands, and such touch is a vital part of activity. This emphasizes the need for sensorimotor rehabilitation approach.

Leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae. The disease mainly affects the skin, the peripheral nerves, mucosal surfaces of the upper respiratory tract, and the eyes. Leprosy is known to occur at all ages ranging from early infancy to very old age. Leprosy is curable and treatment in the early stages can prevent disability.

Leprosy is likely transmitted via droplets, from the nose and mouth, during close and frequent contact with untreated cases.

Baxter's neuropathy is a nerve entrapment syndrome resulting from compression of inferior calcanal nerve (a/k/a Baxter's nerve), first branch of lateral calcaneal nerve.

Inferior calcaneal nerve might get entrapped in between Adductor hallucis and quadratus plantae muscle; main causes being hypertrophied Adductor hallucis and flat foot.

It accounts for almost 20% of hindfoot pain and often overlooked as plantar fasciitis reason being similarities of location of pain.

The distinguishing features of Baxter's neuropathy is pain getting worse with physical activity (post-kinetic dyskinesia) unlike plantar fasciitis.

Moreover, MMT will show weak Abductor digiti minimi.
