"Cancer is a word that frightens everyone today. But fear vanishes when knowledge begins."

We are humbled by the warm welcome from the Hebri community. As this local leader points out, Hebri is a hub of hard-working people—from cashew factories to rice mills. For too long, families had to travel all the way to Manipal just for basic guidance. Not anymore.

With the new Sanjeevini Cancer Information Centre right here in Hebri, we are bringing awareness to your doorstep.

As he rightly said: "If detected in the initial stage, everyone can be cured."

Let’s wake up our villages to the importance of screening. Special thanks for the blessings in the name of Lord Ananthapadmanabha.

"I have seen the pain of cancer in my own family. Now, I want to see hope in my town."

Mr. Venkataramana Bhakta has run his shop in Hebri for over two decades. He knows this community inside out. Recently, he noticed a worrying trend—nearly 25 to 30 cancer cases in the surrounding areas, including tragedy in his own family.

Instead of staying silent, he took action. When the Sanjeevini Cancer Seva Trust and Mangalore Institute of Oncology (MIO) approached him, he didn't just welcome them; he helped establish the new Cancer Information Centre right next to him.

📍 Now Open at: Sumiram Arcade (formerly Syndicate Bank Building), Hebri.

Mr. Bhakta’s Message: "Don't wait. If you have doubts or need guidance, come here. Get the right information, get treated, and recover."

This is what community looks like. Thank you, sir, for standing with us to save lives.

A 36-year-old woman came to us with hope in her eyes and a prayer for a family. But a diagnosis of an ovarian mass brought a devastating blow—not just to her health, but to her home. In her darkest hour, she was deserted by her husband, a stark reminder that while medicine has advanced, society’s mindset still lags behind.

But she refused to give up.

Supported by the Ayushman Bharat scheme, she underwent a complex, 8-hour fertility-sparing surgery at MIO Thirthahalli. Led by Dr. Vishwanath, Dr. Divya, and Dr. Bhavya, our team successfully removed the cancer while preserving her uterus and one o***y.

Why? Because we believe treatment isn't just about saving a life; it's about saving a future.

Dr. Suresh Rao (Head, MIO Thirthahalli) confirms that since the cancer was detected at Stage I, she now has the gift of time—to recover, to dream, and perhaps one day, to become a mother.

Hospitals can heal the body, but it takes a community to heal the heart. Let’s break the stigma. Cancer is curable. Abandonment is not the answer.

We often see Dr. D Suresh Rao (Director, MIO) in the corridors of Mangalore Institute of Oncology, focused on complex treatments and critical decisions. But behind the life-saving expertise is a person who values the simple joys of life.

Whether it’s a moment of quiet reflection or pursuing a hobby, these pauses are vital. They recharge the compassion and energy needed to lead the fight against cancer every single day.

At MIO, we believe in holistic health—not just for our patients, but for our healers too. A balanced mind leads to the best care.

Here is a rare glimpse of Dr. Rao off-duty, reminding us all to take a moment for ourselves.
