The Glaucoma Awareness Cyclothon 2026, organized by Precise Speciality Eye Care, was successfully conducted on 15th March 2026 bringing together cyclists, healthcare professionals, dignitaries, and health enthusiasts for a meaningful cause.
The event started with an energetic Zumba warm-up session. The program officially commenced with the Welcome Address by Dr. Jayaram V R, Chairman of Precise Speciality Eye Care, who emphasized the importance of early detection and awareness about glaucoma, often referred to as the “Silent Thief of Sight.”
The Inaugural Address was delivered by Smt. Anu Kumari IAS, District Collector of Thiruvananthapuram.
The event was further honoured by the presence of distinguished dignitaries including:
• Sri P. N. Ranjith Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, Kerala Circle
• Dr. Sreejith, President, IMA
• Dr. Mini Mathew, Scientific Committee Member, KSOS
• Dr. Anitha Prabhakaran, Scientific Committee Chairman, TOC
Dr. Kiran Gopalakrishnan, Head of Department & Senior Consultant in Glaucoma and Cornea, delivered a special Glaucoma Awareness Talk highlighting prevention, early detection, and the importance of regular eye check-ups.
Participants also took the Glaucoma Awareness Oath led by Sri P. N. Ranjith Kumar, pledging to spread awareness and protect vision.
The Cyclothon was flagged off by Smt. Anu Kumari IAS, with cyclists riding from Kanakakunnu to Shangumugham to promote glaucoma awareness.
The event concluded on a high note with the distribution of medals to all participating cyclists. This was followed by the announcement of the Lucky Dip winners.
The cyclothon successfully delivered a powerful message: Glaucoma has no early symptoms. Regular eye check-ups can save vision.
People above the age of 40 should undergo a comprehensive eye check-up with an eye specialist at least once a year to prevent vision loss caused by glaucoma.
