Relax the throat, Relax the pelvic floor.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk ;)
When I gave birth, I prepared for it by learning to relax the pelvic floor, which required that I have control over my vocal cords. Yes, I chose natural birth, so having this little knowledge tidbit REALLY helped me go the distance!
Did you know that vocalizing during birth is also a powerful pain reliever?
Yes, I used that little trick too.
Science supports a direct connection that is physical, neurological, and emotional - between the voice and the va**na (actually, we're talking about the pelvic floor here).
Did you know that during the early stages of embryonic development, the vocal cords and ovaries originate from the same place?
Structurally, it takes just a quick glance to see the vocal cords and v***a appear pretty darn physically similar.
Guess that, they are also connected by the vagus nerve, which is super important for everything from sexual to mental to digestive to emotional to orthopaedic health.
Oh, did you ALSO know the word "cervix" means "neck" in Latin?
Yea, there's also that.
So when I was in the throes of labor with all 3 of my boys, I felt firsthand that relaxing my throat - relaxed the pelvic floor, which made giving birth a heck of a lot easier.
Feeling tension in your throat can cause all kinds of issues though, not just for making birth harder.
Improving vocal issues can help with:
✅Pelvic floor function
✅Better public speaking
✅Sexual function
✅Better birth
✅Less pain
✅Improved or**sm*
✅Improving self-confidence
✅Being more effective and assertive
*Deep mindful breathing involves the diaphragm and pelvic floor - which can activate the connection between the encephalic trunk and sacred plexus (2nd chakra if you want to go esoteric and energetic on me). Some believe that can improve or**sm depth and length.
Did you also know in Chinese medicine, part of the treatment of sexual trauma involves the treatment of diaphragm and throat? (hence this great graphic and see the original post on )
