Patient Jyoti presented to us in her 7th month of her 2nd pregnancy in critical condition with Acute hypovolemic shock and severe metabolic acidosis secondary to acute severe gastroenteritis and intractable loose motions. This had caused her kidneys to stop functioning (acute tubular necrosis) and infection had also spread in her body (sepsis). Her earlier antenatal treatment had been at GMCH Sector 16, CHD from where she was referred to PGI and then she was brought to Amar Hospital.

She was admitted under the care of Dr. Akanksha Bansal, Obstetrician & Gynecologist and Dr. Ravinder Goyal, Gastroenterologist in our Intensive care Unit and her treatment was started. With combined efforts of our Intensivists (Dr. Sankalp Kaushal and Dr. Prerna) we resuscitated and stabilised her.

Hemodialysis was done under the expert guidance of our Nephrologist Dr. Tanvi Raghuvanshi and slowly the patient recovered. Throughout her time in ICU the baby was monitored and all precautions were taken to ensure safety of both the mother and her in-utero baby.

After 6 days in ICU we shifted her out and on her 8th day we discharged her. She and her family again chose Dr. Akanksha Bansal for her delivery and with happy hearts they welcomed a baby girl earlier this January.
