Appendicitis and It's Symptoms

Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix. It's a medical emergency that almost always requires surgery as soon as possible to remove the appendix. Luckily, you can live just fine without it.

Where Is Your Appendix?
This 3 1/2-inch-long tube of tissue extends from your large intestine on the lower right side of your body.

Symptoms of Appendicitis:
The classic symptoms of appendicitis include:

-Pain in your lower right belly or pain near your navel that moves lower. This is usually the first sign.
-Loss of appetite
-Nausea and vomiting soon after belly pain begins
-Swollen belly
-Fever of 99-102 degrees
-Can’t pass gas

Other less common symptoms of appendicitis include:

-Dull or sharp pain anywhere in your upper or lower belly, back, or rear end
-Painful or difficult peeing
-Vomiting before your belly pain starts
-Severe cramps
-Constipation or diarrhea with gas

If you have any of these symptoms, see a doctor right away. Timely diagnosis and treatment are important. Don’t eat, drink, or use any pain remedies, antacids, laxatives, or heating pads.

Internal vs External Hemorrhoids

Internal hemorrhoids are located inside the re**um and typically can’t be seen or felt without specialized examinations. As there aren’t traditional nerves near internal hemorrhoids, most people don’t know they have them and don’t have symptoms from them. Bleeding is the most common, and sometimes only, sign of internal hemorrhoids.

External hemorrhoids are located external to the re**um, usually near the a**s. External hemorrhoids are located near a high-number of nerves so they often cause pain, itching and other symptoms including bleeding. They are also at a higher risk of thrombosis or developing a blood clot inside the hemorrhoid. Thrombosed hemorrhoids are usually very painful and usually require medical treatment.

Causes: (Internal or External Hemorrhoids)

-Pushing or heavy straining during bowel movements
-Chronic constipation or diarrhea
-A**l in*******se
-Pregnancy
-Obesity
-Long periods of sitting on the toilet or standing
-Low-fiber diet

Symptoms and Complications (Internal or External Hemorrhoids)

-Pain or discomfort
-Bleeding—with or without pain
-Itching or irritation near the a**s
-Swelling or sensation of a lump near the a**s

If you are worried you may be developing hemorrhoid-related problems, speak to your doctor about your treatment options. Visit Cheema Medical Complex, Mohali and get the best treatment. Call us now on 0172-4008070, 9876405771.

Pr*****ed Hemorrhoids and It's Symptoms

Pr*****ed hemorrhoids are internal, located in the re**um, and prolapse through the a**s. (External hemorrhoids in the a**s could also bulge outside the a**l opening, but they are not referred to as pr*****ed hemorrhoids.)

Symptoms:
The most common symptoms include:

1. A lump: You may feel a bump on your a**s when you wipe after a bowel movement. This is the swollen vein, and it may be tender to the touch, tender all the time, or painless.

2. Bleeding: You may notice blood in the toilet or on the toilet paper when you have a bowel movement, or even on your underwear in between bowel movements.

3. Itching: The skin around your a**s may be very itchy when you have a pr*****ed hemorrhoid.

4. Discomfort: Large pr*****ed hemorrhoids may trigger a general feeling of discomfort or a sense of incomplete evacuation of your bowels, even when you don't have to release stool.

How do you get and prevent hemorrhoids?

When the veins in your lower re**um and a**s stretch under pressure, they may swell or bulge. These are hemorrhoids. The pressure that makes them swell can be caused by:

-Pushing hard to defecate
-Sitting on the toilet for a long time
-Chronic diarrhea
-Chronic constipation
-A**l in*******se
-Obesity
-Pregnancy

Prevent hemorrhoids:

-Eat a diet that’s high in fiber.
-Stay properly hydrated.
-Don’t strain when having a bowel movement.
-Don’t hold off the urge to defecate. Go as soon as you feel the impulse.
-Stay active and physically fit.
-Don’t sit on the toilet for long periods of time.

If the pain from your hemorrhoids is persistent or your hemorrhoids are bleeding, consult with a doctor about the best treatment option for you.

Rubber Band Ligation for Hemorrhoids

Rubber band ligation is a procedure in which the hemorrhoid is tied off at its base with rubber bands, cutting off the blood flow to hemorrhoid. This treatment is only for internal hemorrhoids.

To do this procedure, a doctor inserts a viewing instrument (anoscope) into the a**s. The hemorrhoid is grasped with an instrument, and a device places a rubber band around the base of hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoid then shrinks and dies and, in about a week, falls off.

To know more about Rubber Band Ligation treatment, please visit Cheema Medical Complex (cmcmohali.com), Mohali and Meet our Dr. Harsh Kumar, General Surgeon NOW.

Bowel Cancer and It’s Symptoms

Bowel cancer is cancer that starts in the large bowel (colon) or back passage (re**um). It is also known as colore**al cancer. Cancer is when abnormal cells start to divide and grow in an uncontrolled way. The cells can grow into surrounding tissues or organs, and may spread to other areas of the body.

More than 90% of people with bowel cancer have 1 of the following combinations of symptoms:

1. A persistent change in bowel habit – pooing more often,
with looser, runnier poos and sometimes tummy
(abdominal) pain.

2. Blood in the poo without other symptoms of piles
(haemorrhoids) – this makes it unlikely the cause is
haemorrhoids.

3. Abdominal pain, discomfort or bloating always brought on
by eating – sometimes resulting in a reduction in the
amount of food eaten and weight loss.

See your GP if you have 1 or more of the symptoms of bowel cancer, and they persist for more than 4 weeks.
