रेबीज को लेकर तथ्य तो हम सभी को जानना चाहिए:

1) रेबीज सिर्फ़ कुत्तों के काटने से नहीं बल्कि बिल्ली, बंदरों इत्यादि से भी हो सकता है

2) जानवरों के काटने के अलावा नोचने से भी हो सकता है

3) वैक्सीन की कोई समय सीमा नहीं है। अर्थात् अगर किसी कारणवश 24 घंटे के अंदर नहीं लगवा पाये तो बाद में भी लगवा सकते। symptom आने से पहले लग जाना चाहिये।अगर एक साल पहले काटा है तो भी अभी लगवा सकते हैं।

4) रेबीज के symptom आने के समय में काफ़ी ज़्यादा variation है। हो सकता है 4 दिन में ही आ जाये या 25 वर्ष बाद भी।अगर exposure हुआ है तो ना ख़ुद में symptom आने का इंतज़ार करना है और ना जानवर के मरने का। जितनी जल्दी हो सके anti rabies vaccine लेना है

5) रेबीज लाइलाज बीमारी है।वैक्सीन ही उपचार है। मरीज़ में अगर रेबीज के लक्षण आ जाये तो मृत्यु दर क़रीब 100 फ़ीसदी है।

इसीलिए सावधानी और सतर्कता बेहद ज़रूरी है। यदि किसी ऐसे जानवर के संपर्क में आएँ तो जितनी जल्दी हो anti-rabies वैक्सीन ले लेनी चाहिये

हाल ही में RG Kar मेडिकल कॉलेज और अस्पताल में हुई क्रूरता के जवाब में, कोलकाता के डॉक्टरों ने हड़ताल की है, जो लंबे समय से अनदेखी की जा रही हिंसा और प्रणालीगत मुद्दों के खिलाफ एकजुटता में खड़े हैं। यह हड़ताल सिर्फ एक मामले के बारे में नहीं है; यह उन सभी लोगों की रक्षा के लिए न्याय और जवाबदेही की मांग के बारे में है जो ऐसे अपराधों से प्रभावित हैं।

चिकित्सा समुदाय के सदस्यों के रूप में, यह हमारा कर्तव्य है कि हम भारतीय चिकित्सा संघ के साथ उन अमानवीय अत्याचारों और हिंसा के खिलाफ खड़े हों जो डॉक्टरों को निशाना बनाती हैं।

"कहीं भी अन्याय, हर जगह न्याय के लिए खतरा है।"

आइए न्याय के लिए एकजुट हों।
