🌍 World Alzheimer’s Day: Remembering Those Who Forget

Every year on 21st September, the world unites to observe World Alzheimer’s Day — a day dedicated to raising awareness, fighting stigma, and strengthening support for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

Alzheimer’s is not just a medical condition; it is a journey that affects patients, families, and communities alike. Memory loss, confusion, and personality changes gradually take away not just independence, but also cherished connections with loved ones. Behind every diagnosis, there is a story of resilience — of patients holding on, families adapting, and caregivers showing extraordinary patience.

Why this day matters

Awareness saves time: Early recognition and diagnosis can help patients access treatments, lifestyle modifications, and support systems.

Caregivers need care too: The emotional and physical toll on caregivers is immense; acknowledging their role is equally important.

Research brings hope: Advancements in neuroscience, technology, and therapies hold promise for better management and, one day, a cure.

How we can all contribute

Educate ourselves and others about the signs and symptoms.

Extend empathy to caregivers and families.

Support organizations working towards dementia care and research.

Encourage age-friendly communities where dignity is preserved.

💡 Remember: Memory may fade, but compassion should never.

On this World Alzheimer’s Day, let us pledge to build a society where those who forget are never forgotten.

🧡 World Patient Safety Day 2025: Safety Starts with Listening

Today is World Patient Safety Day, and I find myself reflecting on a simple, powerful truth:

> Safe care starts when we truly listen.

In healthcare, we often focus on systems, protocols, and performance indicators — and rightly so. But it’s easy to forget that at the heart of every system is a human being: a patient with fears, hopes, and a voice that deserves to be heard.

This year’s theme — “Elevate the voice of patients” — is a call to action.

It asks us to go beyond policies and procedures, and to center care around the lived experiences of the people we serve.

Whether you're a clinician, administrator, policymaker, or someone who interacts with the healthcare system in any way, I think this is a moment to ask ourselves:

Are we creating space for patients to speak openly?

Are we making it safe for them to say, “Something doesn’t feel right”?

Are we involving them in decisions about their care — not just informing them, but collaborating with them?

Patient safety isn’t just about preventing harm.

It’s about building trust. It’s about designing care with patients, not just for them. And it's about recognizing that every voice matters — especially the ones we too often overlook.

As someone who believes in continuous improvement and compassionate care, I see World Patient Safety Day as more than a date on the calendar. It’s a reminder of the responsibility we all share — not just to do no harm, but to actively create environments where patients feel respected, protected, and empowered.

So today, I’m committing to listening more closely. To learning from patients, not just about them. And to helping build a culture where safety is not assumed — it's earned, together.
