There has been a viral video circulating and claiming that -

1. Fructose is not absorbed and hence is safe for people with diabetes. If it is not absorbed, what happens to that fructose? Common sense is that fructose is a monosaccharide and is a simple sugar and definitely not recommended in unrestricted quantities for people with diabetes. There are studies which state excess fructose consumption may lead to NAFLD and hyperuricemia.

2. It's good to juice the fruits and juicing won't increase blood glucose - As qualified dietitians we don't agree to these views because, once you juice a fruit, fibre and important micronutrients are lost during the juicing process. Also, juicing helps in rapid absorption of the sugars and hence can lead to a spike in blood glucose. For people with diabetes, it's not good to have such stark variations in blood glucose and better to have a whole fruit than juicing it.

Also, it's important to note that while fruits are permitted in diabetes, it's important to count your carbohydrates, work closely with a qualified dietitian to decide which fruits, what quantity and when you can take it.

BROCOLLI ALMOND SOUP!!!

Its raining past 2 days and hence thought of making something quick and healthy along with dinner...

Brocolli almond soup is fulllll of proteins and also good for people on weight loss or diabetic... the creamy soup is something that everyone enjoys in my family...

It's very simple and super healthy soup...

In a pan... Add 1 tsp of butter....on low flame, Toss few garlic cloves... 1 diced onion... Brocolli florets... Saute it for 5-7 mins... Add 1 cup of milk and some good amount of celery...and some chopped roasted almonds...let it boil for 5 mins...Turn off the flame...

Blend it in blender... Again bring it to boil... Garnish with some pepper powder and almond slivers... ready....
