🌞 Summer Heat and its effect on brain health 🌞
➡️Heat stroke: High temperatures can cause the body to overheat, leading to heat stroke.
Symptoms include confusion, disorientation, and seizures.
They can lead to permanent brain damage or death if not treated promptly.
➡️Heat exhaustion: High temperatures can also cause dehydration, leading to heat exhaustion.
Patients complains of fatigue, headache, and nausea.
➡️Migraine tend to worsen during hot weather.
It may be due to the changes in blood flow and release of certain neurotransmitters.
➡️Epilepsy can worsen due to changes in brain activity during hot weather.
Ambient heat affects the insulation of nerve fibers, leading to worsening of multiple sclerosis.
This can cause fatigue, muscle weakness and difficulty walking.
Extra precautions during summer.
Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day, hydrate, and use a fan or AC to keep cool.

▪ How Age and Family History Affect Your Risk of Parkinson's Disease ▪
Parkinson's disease is a chronic, progressive disorder that affects the nervous system, specifically the dopamine-producing cells in the brain.
Risk factors include:
➡Age: risk of Parkinson's disease increases with age, commonly over 60.
➡Family history: Few people with Parkinson's have a first-degree relative (parent, sibling, or child)
with the condition.
➡Toxins: toxins, such as pesticides and herbicides, increase the risk of Parkinson's
➡Head trauma: especially multiple or severe injuries, have an increased risk of developing Parkinson's
➡Inflammation: caused by longstanding conditions such as COPD or rheumatoid arthritis may increase the risk of Parkinson's.
Lastly, some genetic mutations can increase the risk of developing Parkinson's but this percentage remains small.

Impact of Smoking on Brain
◾Harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke can damage the blood vessels in the brain, with increased risk of stroke.
◾Smoking increases risk of dementia, including Alzheimer's.
◾Chemicals in cigarette smoke can damage blood vessels in the brain, leading to a decline in cognitive function.
◾Smoking can increase risk of developing multiple sclerosis: A chronic disabling condition that affects the nervous system with symptoms like weakness, numbness, problems with coordination.
✅Quitting smoking can greatly reduce the risk of developing these neurological conditions and
improve overall health.
✅Nicotine replacement therapy, prescription medications, and counselling can help.
Consult a doctor to know the best approach to quit smoking.

Effects of Alcohol on Brain function and Coordination:
Alcohol use increases the risk for traumatic brain injury, either from falls, vehicle accidents etc.
Heavy alcohol consumption damages the nerves, leading to alcoholic neuropathy and causes tingling, numbness, weakness in the extremities.
Long-term heavy alcohol consumption can lead to deficiency of vitamin B1resulting in Wernicke- Korsakoff syndrome. Such patients come with confusion, memory loss, vision disturbances.
Alcohol damages the cerebellum, which controls coordination and balance, leading to cerebellar ataxia.
Patient has difficulty in walking and in coordination.
Long-term heavy alcohol leads to decline in cognitive function and an increased risk of dementia.
If you have health concerns about your alcohol consumption, consult your neurologist immediately.

🤔Cognitive Function and DIABETES!
◾Diabetes can damage the nerves, leading to a condition called diabetic neuropathy, causing tingling, numbness, and weakness in the extremities.
➡️Diabetic neuropathy affects nerves of the digestive system, urinary tract, and heart, leading to constipation, urine leakage, and heart rhythm disturbances.
➡️High blood sugar levels can damage small blood vessels in the brain, with decline in cognitive function and an increased risk of dementia.
➡️Diabetes damages blood vessels in the retina, leading to diabetic retinopathy.
➡️It causes vision loss and even blindness.
➡️Diabetes is a major risk factor for stroke as high blood sugar levels slowly damage blood vessels in the brain, leading to stroke.

🤨Did you know High BP can lead to Stroke?
Hypertension, or high blood pressure is a major risk factor for stroke.
Either blood flow to the brain is blocked or blood vessel in the brain bursts 🤯.
This causes problems like paralysis, or difficulty speaking or understanding or even vision problems.
Further, Sudden 📈rise in BP can cause hypertensive encephalopathy causing headache, confusion, seizures, even coma.
It is a medical emergency 🆘 and requires controlled lowering of BP to prevent further damage.
Hypertension damages small blood vessels in the brain 🧠to increase the risk of dementia.
Nerve fibers in the retina can get damaged causing hypertensive retinopathy and vision loss.
One must take steps to control high BP.

💤Sleep is an important factor in the regulation of blood pressure.
Sleep apnea, is a condition where breathing is repeatedly interrupted during sleep. So a person wakes up multiple times during the night, leading to poor sleep quality and daytime fatigue.
➡Sleep apnea also increases the risk of hypertension.
People who get less than 🕕 six hours of sleep per night have a higher risk of developing hypertension.
➡Adequate sleep, regular exercise 🚶‍♀️ and managing stress 😌 help in lowering blood pressure.
Treating sleep disorders like sleep apnea can also help to lower blood pressure.

✨Botox: Balancing the Benefits and Risks
Here are some potential concerns or criticisms of botulinum toxin:
1.Like any medical treatment, botulinum toxin carries some risks like pain at the injection site, nausea, headache, or muscle weakness. In rare cases, botulinum toxin treatment may cause difficulty speaking or swallowing, and allergic reactions.
2. Complications such as infection or bleeding at the injection site.
3. Overdosing on botulinum toxin can be dangerous
4. Some people may abuse botulinum toxin for cosmetic purposes, leading to excess toxin.
5. Some people may have ethical concerns about the use of botulinum toxin for cosmetic purposes such as cultural pressure to conform to certain standards of beauty.

✨Botox: Just a fad or the future of beauty?
Botulinum toxin first gained widespread attention in the media in the early 2000s, when it was rumored that many celebrities, including Cindy Crawford and Jennifer Aniston, were using the toxin to help smooth out wrinkles and fine lines on their faces.
➡️In the years since, the use of botulinum toxin by celebrities has become more common.
Despite the popularity the use of Botox for cosmetic purposes is not without controversy.
Some people have raised concerns about the potential risks and side effects of botulinum toxin, as well as the cultural pressure to conform to certain standards of beauty.
However, for cosmetic purposes it remains popular among celebrities and non-celebrities alike, and it is likely to continue to be a part of popular culture for the foreseeable future.
