Autism and Special Education

From writing only with hand holding to Independent writing.
Learning thru Rote to using higher Cognitive functions of recall.
From not Understanding the purpose of education to taking Responsibility of his work.
This is the journey of a 15yr old Shashu.
He embarked this journey of Remedial Therapy when he turned 13 , it wasn’t easy for him to UNLEARN and then Re- LEARN but with the help of a beautiful partnership between the parent and therapist, here he is preparing for his A level Mock Test.

Super proud of you dear Shashu!!! You are a fighter for sure…

✳️Mathematics can be an experience if we decode it in a correct way. It has to be converted into functional language and has to be generalised with environmental examples so that the child can see maths in everyday life instead of being a terror from text book.

Autism and Special Education.
Comprehension
Many people get stopped ,they say the child is non verbal how do we know he/she can comprehend?
Sharing a strategy where we can check the childs understanding through worksheet mode.
Lesson Plan:
Create worksheets with such simple drawings and give relevant choice of flash cards.
In the pictures shared above the child was able to pick the correct pictures most of the time and could place it independently.

Pre Requisite-
Before starting such worksheets ensure that you have tested your child's Comprehension at word level.

Very happy to share that this Women’s Day, LifeOfASpecialEducator moved to a new address.
This journey looks so natural now but when I started a blog by the same name in 2018, I never thought that this is what would be in store for me.

I consider myself very fortunate to do what I do now..

A journey from being a Software Engineer to a Special Educator has been a very beautiful one and I’m looking forward to see what the future holds for me.

Special thanks to Dr.Maya Nanavati , Dr.Goel and Dr. for gracing this occasion with their presence.
Thank you so much for designing this beautiful space for us.💫
