Dr Mayur Rabhadiya on Knee Replacement: Can You Sit Cross-Legged After Surgery? | Mumbai

Can you sit cross-legged after knee replacement surgery?
I am Dr Mayur Rabhadiya, Knee Arthritis Specialist and Knee Replacement Surgeon in Mumbai, and this is one of the most common questions patients ask before surgery.

The answer depends on:
• Pre-surgery stiffness and deformity
• Range of motion achieved after surgery
• Physiotherapy compliance
• Implant positioning and soft tissue balance
The primary goal of knee replacement surgery is pain relief and functional walking. Extreme flexibility is not always guaranteed.

Realistic expectations are important before deciding on knee replacement.
If you are considering knee replacement in Mumbai and want clarity about recovery and lifestyle after surgery, informed consultation is essential.

Knee arthritis does not progress the same way in men and women.

I am Dr Mayur Rabhadiya, Knee Arthritis Specialist and Knee Replacement Surgeon in Mumbai, and I frequently see important differences in how osteoarthritis affects male and female patients after the age of 50.

Women, especially after menopause, have a higher risk of knee osteoarthritis. Hormonal changes influence cartilage degeneration and inflammation. At the same X-ray stage, women may report more severe pain compared to men.

Men more commonly develop varus deformity, or bow-leg alignment. Women more often show valgus alignment, or knock-knee pattern. This difference changes joint loading and influences treatment planning, including knee replacement decisions.

Knee arthritis is not just age-related wear and tear. Biology, alignment and individual anatomy matter.
If knee pain is gradually increasing after 45, early evaluation is important.
