Dr. Sunita Chhapola Shukla, a prominent ENT surgeon and renowned Allergy specialist from Mumbai, stated in her talk "Allergy: A Pandora's Box" that one in three patients with nasal allergies is at risk of developing asthma, at the 59th annual conference of the Indian College of Allergy, Asthma, and Applied Immunology (ICAAICON 2025) organized at King George's Medical University (KGMU)
She emphasized that allergies are a complex but manageable condition and that urban pollution, changing lifestyles, and dietary habits are major causes of the rising cases of allergies and asthma. The article also mentions that according to the World Allergy Organization, 30-40% of the world's population is affected by some form of allergy. Allergies can be diagnosed early and can be treated and thus improve the quality of life of the patient and prevent further complications.
