SEWT (SIDDIQUI' EDU & WELF TRUST) is a registered NGO working in the field of Education, Health, Youth & Women welfare &Senior citizens care among the people of the slums. Siddiqui’s educational and welfare trust (SEWT) is registered in India under the Mumbai public trust act 1950 (Reg. SEWT is a public charitable trust of a non profit, non political & secular in character. SEWT ’S focus areas are aimed at community development initiatives that include education, healthcare, vocational training, empowering youth , women & senior citizens amongst the underprivileged section of the society residing in urban slums. SEWT initiates programmes for the all round development of the slum people helping the needy, backward, downtrodden and the poorest of the poor irrespective of sex, race, caste, creed, religion or any of them.

A seminar was organized by S.E.W.T under their initiative I - CARE to observe National Science Day. The basic aim of the seminar was to inculcate the habit of rational thinking and improve scientific temper amongst the students.The Seminar was attended by Dr. A.P.Jayaraman (Eminent nuclear scientist and a colleague of A.P.J Kalam), Dr. A.R.K. Pillai (Founder , President IDF) , Mrs Prabha Purohit (Mumbai co-ordinatior Andhshradda Nirmoolan Samiti), Mr, Madhav B. (Maharashtra co-originator Andhshraddha Nirmoolan Samiti), Dr. Naraynan Iyer (CEO IDF), Dr, Ashish Bhosale (Founder, President Healing touch Foundation) Mr. Jaywant Hargude (ACP), Rotarian Mr. Aunali Rupani & Mr. Mohd.Anis Siddiqui (Founder, Director S.E.W.T ) .Nearly 500 students from various school participated in the event.

BEST OF LUCK TO OUR STUDENTS.

107 students mostly women's who have dropped out of school due to financial reason including many children's of domestic helps appeared for STD. XII exams through Yashwantrao Chavan Open University on Sunday 23rd June. The youngest was 18 year old while the oldest was 56 year old.The classes were conducted by SEWT.

An awareness campaign for the prevention of T.B. was initiated by S.E.W.T. in association with a team of doctors from K.E.M. Hospital for the locals of Malwani Mumbai. A question & answer session was held between the doctors and the audience. Some of the patient who have recovered from the disease shared their experience, amongst them was a young girl who was diagnosed with the dreaded MDR-T.B. On the occasions the doctors performed a skit and dispelled many doubts associated with the disease.
Similar session are planned in other slums of Ambojwadi and Azminagar which have become hotbeds of the killer disease.
The campaign will culminate with a massive rally of about 500 students on 24th March WORLD T.B. DAY.

A felicitation cm experience sharing programme was organized by S.E.W.T. along with the students of ROSE MARY ENGLISH SCHOOL to celebrate International women's day. It marked the beginning of their campaign 'BE BOLD, BE STRONG' .The programme was conceptualized and conducted by the students of RMES. The aim was to felicitate and share the experience of women's who work selflessly for the society but are rarely appreciated or even acknowledged (Traffic constable, Nurses, Teachers, Police constables, Domestic workers, School helps etc.). A perfect way of saying 'THANK YOU" and acknowledging their contribution for the betterment of the society. On the occasion the students took a pledge to be an agent of change .

A programme was held in the slums of Malwani by S.E.W.T. along with Vacha (an NGO working for gender equality). The children's of the slums took part in the cultural programme and participated in a rally along the slums spreading the message of gender equality , hygiene, and various other social issues.

Mr. Govind Jaishwal is son of a rickshaw vendor from Varanasi. He has cleared the IAS toppers list 2007; thus setting an example of empowerment through education. Although due credit goes also to his father who has toiled all the past years to educate his son with a dream in his eyes!
