Dacryops or Lacrimal Gland Cyst is a rare benign cyst of the Lacrimal Gland (Gland responsible for Tear Production) most commonly presenting as a painless bluish swelling under the outer part of the upper eyelid.

It is caused due to the obstruction of the Lacrimal Gland ductules. Small Cysts are usually observed, while larger ones are usually excised.

Ocular Surface Squamous Neoplasm is a rare non-pigmented tumor of the Conjunctiva & Cornea. It usually presents as a white, gelatinous growth with abnormal vasculature & the presence of feeder vessels. If left untreated, it can spread not only inside the eye but also into the orbit (the bones which encase the eye).

Usually confused with simple lesions like a Pterygium, a timely and accurate diagnosis is necessary for the appropriate management.

Canaliculocele or Canaliculops is a rare non-infectious, non-inflammatory distension of the Lacrimal Canaliculus (small duct in the eyelid which helps in tear drainage) filled with fluid.

It presents as a cystic swelling at the medial part of the eyelid and requires careful surgical excision.

Canalicular Laceration Repair:

The Canaliculus is a small tube-like structure within the medial aspect of the eyelid that is responsible for drainage of the tears from the eyes to the nasal cavity. The lower lid Canaliculus drains approximately 80% of the tears.

Any trauma involving the lower lid Canaliculus with subsequent improper surgical repairing can lead to an unsightly lid appearance along with life-long watering from the eye.

The correct surgical treatment requires a good approximation of the cut edges along with placement of a tube to aid tear drainage.

This female was referred to me with painful swelling around the RE since 5 days.
On careful history and examination, she was found to have Orbital Cellulitis (which is a vision and life threatening condition) secondary to a long standing Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction.

Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction:

Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction is the blockage of the tube that drains water from the eyes into the nose.
Patients usually present with watering and discharge from the eyes, recurrent redness in eyes and even a swelling near the medial canthus.
If left untreated it can occasionally lead to an acute dacryocystitis or an orbital cellulitis which can be vision as well as life threatening.
A simple surgery relieves the patient of watering as well as it's potential complications.

If you notice any of these symptoms kindly consult your Oculoplastic Surgeon.
