The book comes with a supplemental zine, providing the book owners with a quick summary of the contents. It complements the in-depth information present in the book with a summary perfect for light reading and is perfect for libraries and educational institutes. All of this comes together to create a book that serves not just to educate the masses but to entertain. . To conclude, the book unifies all the different narratives each chapter offers to deliver an experience that provides a comprehensive history of the Mithila art, giving any would-be reader nothing more to ask for. We are honoured to be a part of such a project as a studio and are ecstatic to be a part of the movement this book is attempting to start.

It was challenging to create designs around text heavy blocks while adhering to the nature and characteristics of the art form itself and make sure it reflected in the design of the book.  . Our solution was to ‘Redefine the genre of the book’ . We created an amalgamation of two types of genres, which we chose to be that of a coffee table book and a magazine, taking the best of both worlds and combining features such as a columnar grid, text-heavy layouts, full-bleed images, and super breathable layouts, and more. .  The result is a book perfect for inspiring and initiating conversations on the Mithila Art. Despite the presence of these unique perspectives in one book, the book still manages to bring them together under one umbrella, thanks to the book’s novel formatting choices. . Read more about the process we followed on our complete showcase of the project on our website!

‘Mithila Art - A 360 Degree Review of Mithila Painting’  This book is an unbiased take on one of India's most recognisable indigenous art forms. The book’s USP is its bias-free accounting, achieved by nine chapters, each written by different authors with differing perspectives and viewpoints. This serves to turn the book into a bible for everything Mithila. Designing such a book was quite challenging, but the result makes it a project to be proud of.

We at DFO recently worked on a publication design project that we believe would go on to change the world of art, particularly Indian art. We conducted extensive research on the characteristics and visual language of various genres of books, before beginning work on a project with such a herculean vision. Apart from the secondary research, reading the source material several times before designing its pages was a transformative experience that pushed us to stay true to the authors’ goal.

This year DFO became accustomed to remote workflows and remotely onboarding new talent. We bounced ideas off each other and achieved milestones on several projects. Meeting challenges as they came, we responded as teams and also shone as individuals, mastering the art of honing individual creativity for collaborative ventures.

Meet Swarnima ( ), our writer who works on peculiar but endearing stories for children. She is always up for discussions on anime, kdramas and webtoons. Loves reading poetry and sometimes writes her own. She loves fiction and fantasy and can often be found daydreaming and cooking up an alternate reality for herself. A lawyer by qualification, she cannot shake off the intensive researching habit. As an INTP, logic and rationality are a part of her personality but she hopes to be more and more whimsical each passing day.

Meet Uma ( .bluebird ), a Writer at DFO who channels her passion for writing, especially for children, into the work she does. She believes that good writing brings joy, even if it’s a conflicted or mixed-up joy. That’s what she wants to bring out in her own writing. When she’s not devouring novels or drafting stories, she is conversing with her tarot cards, watching birds from her balcony, spending time with her dolls, or doing yoga. She’s an avid k-pop fan and savours a good k-drama. She’s probably daydreaming right this minute.
