Today is 🌐 World Multiple Sclerosis day

✔ The theme for World MS Day 2020-2022 is ‘connections’.

✔ The MS Connections campaign is all about building community connection, self-connection, and connections to quality care.

✔ Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord).

✔ Today,  2.8 million people around the world have MS.

✔ MS is an inflammatory demyelinating condition. It is caused by damage to myelin – a fatty material that insulates nerves.

✔ In MS, the loss of myelin affects the way nerves conduct electrical impulses to and from the brain.

📍Symptoms can include blurred vision, weak limbs, tingling sensations, unsteadiness, memory problems, and fatigue.

📍Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40. MS is two to three times more common in women than in men.

📍No drug can cure MS, but treatments are available which can modify the course of the disease.

PS: In the background of the flyer, a client has undergone Neurorehabilitation post-MS
She was optimistic and wanted to become self-reliant and we together worked for the same! 🙌💪

Few more info about Stroke Recovery

Initial 6 months are very important in the stroke recovery as the brain is in the stage of establishing new networks through Neuroplasticity.
The more you stimulate the brain , the more output you are going to receive .
This is a female patient aged 84 years after 12 days post stroke , by far her recovery is very good
She has started taking steps too
Wait for the updates !

The majority of stroke patients achieve an independent gait, many do not reach a walking level that enable them to perform all their daily activities.
Gait recovery is a major objective in the rehabilitation program for stroke patients.
Restoring functions after stroke is a complex process involving spontaneous recovery and the effects of therapeutic interventions.

We have started with Gait training for this male patient with Left sided Hemiparesis

Muscle weakness and paralysis, poor motor control and soft tissue contracture are major contributors to walking dysfunction after stroke.

Side walks improve balance ,control in lower limbs , force production in muscles and accuracy of the movement

This week one young male patient
24yrs old approached us saying he is diagnosed with Hirayama disease . I have come across this disease for the first time. I had just read about it as it's not so common like Motor Neuron Disease. This patient has developed ulnar claw hand which is so evident in Right sided wrist extension in the video

Hirayama disease is a rare neurological disease characterized by insidious unilateral or bilateral muscular atrophy and weakness of the forearms and hands without sensory or pyramidal signs. The disease primarily affects men in second or third decade. This disease progresses initially but spontaneous arrest is known to follow several years after the onset.
It is characterized by focal ischemic changes in the anterior horn cells of the lower cervical cord that results in amyotrophy which can be unilateral or bilateral.
