We often celebrate success and accolades, but shy away from acknowledging the pitfalls of being a Mental Health Practitioner.
My profession is considered noble — rooted in empathy, emotional support, guiding people toward clarity, healing and happiness, sometimes even saving lives.
But there’s a darker side to mental health practice where respect can be replaced with boundary violations, misuse of access, and unethical behaviour.

In the story, I share my experience of facing digital boundary violations during an online session — a reality many psychologists, counsellors, and therapists in India silently deal with.
Therapists hold space for others every single day, but we, too, deserve safety, respect, ethical treatment, and protection within the therapeutic relationship.

It’s time we normalise conversations around online therapy safety, digital professionalism, ethical guidelines, therapist wellbeing, and safeguarding mental health professionals across India.
