Types of Hair Loss:
1) ANDROGENIC ALOPECIA:
A) Known as Male Pattern Baldness when it occurs in men & is the most common type of hair loss in men. It is associated with the male s*x hormones called androgens and the main cause is genetics. You will notice your hairline receding into the shape of an ‘M’.
B) Known as Female Pattern Baldness when it occurs in females. Without the hairline receding, the hair all over the scalp starts becoming thin, main cause being PCOS.
2) ALOPECIA AREATA:
Your immune system being the culprit attacks your hair follicle incorrectly. The affected follicle gradually stops growing visible hair which leads to circular patches of hair loss on your scalp. This condition may occur in multiple family members with genetics playing a role in it.
3) TRACTION ALOPECIA:
A) Chignon Alopecia results in hair loss around the crown due to wearing tight hairstyles over an extended period of time.
B) Trichotillomania, a condition that drives you to compulsively pull out your own hair which results in a noticeable hair loss.
C) Hypotrichosis being a condition where you do not have hair growth from the time of your birth itself.
4) ANAGEN & TELOGEN EFFLUVIUM:
A) Anagen Effluvium results in sudden hair loss when in the anagen phase. Generally caused by exposure to chemicals or toxins. It has a capability to reverse within 1 to 3 months but it can be permanent too.
B) Telogen Effluvium is a condition where your hair follicles prematurely being pushed to the telogen phase. It is a result of acute environmental factors like physical trauma, surgery, etc.
5) CRITICAL ALOPECIA:
AKA Scarring Alopecia. It is a rare disorder that destroys your hair follicles replacing them with scar tissues resulting in permanent hair loss.
