Lack of Awareness Amongst Women about Cervical Cancer (here, 'cervical' refers to the 'cervix', the mouth of the uterus):

From the article: ' ...women were asked if they knew what cervical cancer - "garbhashay" in Hindi and Marathi - was, and the answers shocked doctors. Most said they had never heard of it. “We were surprised that 95 per cent of the women had no idea what cervical cancer was. Some said it was neck cancer, while a few said it was abdomen cancer...” '

BREAST SCREENING BY BREAST LIGHT:

A new health service of breast screening by "breast light" is now available at In Sync Gynae Care.

BREAST LIGHT IS NOT A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL AND IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR A MAMMOGRAM SCREENING

It is an additional tool to breast self-examination, but it is more objective as you can see the changes. Women are more confident in visualising the changes rather than just depending on their own palpation skills.

It works by shining a bright red light through the breast tissue. The light passes through the breast tissue and reveals dark areas where blood is present. It is therefore quite normal to see a pattern of veins but, if there is a dark cluster, this is a potential abnormality that should be checked out.

It works on principle that a cancerous tumour has more blood supply and the increased number of blood vessels are seen as dark areas or shadows.
