Here are some meaningful New Year goals that our physiotherapist Dr Disha dedhia would suggest to their patients to promote recovery, fitness, and overall well-being:

1. Commit to Regular Exercise :
Set a realistic workout schedule based on your condition and goals (e.g., 3-4 times a week).
Include strength, flexibility, and balance exercises tailored to your needs.

2. Focus on Posture :
Practice maintaining good posture at work, while walking, and during daily activities.
Incorporate posture-improving exercises into your routine.

3. Improve Mobility :
Set goals for improving joint flexibility and range of motion.
Work on exercises that target specific mobility issues.

4. Stay Consistent with Therapy :
Attend all therapy sessions and follow your home exercise plan diligently.
Track progress to stay motivated.

5. Prioritize Pain Management :
Learn and practice techniques to reduce pain (e.g., stretches, heat/ice therapy).
Focus on strengthening the areas contributing to discomfort.

6. Adopt Ergonomic Practices :
Adjust workspaces and daily habits to reduce strain on your body.
Use supportive tools like cushions or braces as recommended.

7. Stay Hydrated and Eat Nutritious Foods:
Support muscle and joint health with proper hydration and a balanced diet.
Incorporate anti-inflammatory foods if dealing with chronic pain.

8. Set Specific Recovery Goals :
Work with your physiotherapist to set measurable milestones for recovery.
Celebrate small wins to stay motivated.

9. Incorporate Mind-Body Techniques
Try yoga, meditation, or breathing exercises to reduce stress and enhance recovery.

10. Avoid Overexertion
Learn to listen to your body and avoid pushing beyond your limits.
Focus on steady progress rather than quick fixes.
Encourage patients to set personalized goals that are realistic, measurable, and aligned with their therapy journey…

Sports injuries can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. It is not just the physical pain but also the emotional distress that comes with it. A sports injury can be debilitating, preventing you from doing what you love.

A sports injury clinic with good physiotherapy rehabilitation treatments can help with both of these goals.

At The Rehab Clinic, we want our patients to be active participants in their recovery. We provide them with the education for self-management of their injury as well as how they can avoid future injuries through lifestyle changes and improved movement patterns.

Our goal is to reduce your pain and discomfort while restoring movement so you can get back out there and play!

Sports injuries can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. It is not just the physical pain but also the emotional distress that comes with it. A sports injury can be debilitating, preventing you from doing what you love.

As we draw nearer to the full blast of football season, this highlights our top tips for injury prevention and optimal performance for football players:

Sleep – Sleep is the way our body recovers, restores, and builds all the products it needs for the day ahead. Of course, sleep quantity is specific to everyone but you should aim to get at least 8 hours of quality sleep each night. Lack of sleep will not only reduce your optimal performance by tampering with your decision-making skills and alertness but it will also increase your risk of injury, as your muscles have not had sufficient recovery time.

Hydration – Humans are made of 60% water, so there is no doubt that hydration plays a key role here. Dehydration leads to reduced physical and mental performance which inevitably leads to poor sporting performance. It’s recommended that we should drink 2 liters of water per day to keep ourselves sufficiently hydrated.

Pre-match meal – You should aim to eat this meal 3-4 hours before kick-off to allow plenty of time for digestion. This meal should be high in carbohydrates as this is the major energy source your body will use during the match. Great meal examples include bananas, bread, muesli, and peanut butter. Avoid overeating & consuming high-fat foods such as cheese as these are typically harder to digest & may cause stitches during the match.

Mid-match snack – Halftime is a great opportunity to consume vital fluids & restore your depleted energy stores. Taking regular small sips of water accompanied with carbohydrate-rich snacks such as bananas & energy bars/gels is a great way of fuelling the body for the second half.

The warm-up – Our bodies need to prepare for intense exercise & this is exactly how it’s done. Your coach will likely have specific warm-up routines for your team but some general tips are as follows: 20-30 minute duration, starting with low intensity working to higher intensity exercise, stretching once the muscles are warmed followed by short-distance sprint drills.
