As the social media is abuzz with Omicron - the new covid variant reported in Nov 21, 1st reported from South Africa and now detected around the globe in multiple countries, and Govt are gearing up for ban and counterstrategies to control this new threat. What does it mean for you and me?
Unfortunately, much is yet to be discovered and there is already so much noise about it. What we know so far, multiple mutations in the spike protein (the one targeted by the vaccine and monoclonal antibodies), also in certain regions of South Africa, Omicron has replaced the Delta variant as the predominant strain. Whether the strain will escape from vaccine immunity or the drug becomes less efficacious, currently is unknown and much needs to be studied about it. Whether the viral strain is more transmissible is also unknown. Good News is the test kits being used currently for RAT and RT PCR can pick up the Omicron strain.
Yes all this can be overwhelming and cause a state of fear/panic in anyone's mind - but here is the saving grace - most cases were mildly symptomatic.
So, follow COVID appropriate behavior, those still waiting for the vaccine please take it asap

Sarcoidosis is an enigmatic disease. And whenever I discuss this disease as a possible diagnosis, their first response is What is Sarcoidosis? Then comes the fearful thought - is it cancerous or life ending? Fortunately for majority of the patients, neither of the above is true. More than 90% will go into long term remission, and only a few of the patient will go in to advanced disease.

Another common question I get asked is the staging for pulmonary sarcoidosis. Staging in sarcoidosis, unlike cancers do not indicate the severity or the prognosis, except Stage 4 is usually irreversible. Although people in all stages can have severe manifestations.

So now you know a bit more about
Do not suffer in silence/ignorance. Sarcoid can be defeated, equip yourself with the knowledge.

Continuing to serve TB community with full commitment, even in the pandemic..

TB is the biggest killer infectious disease, killed 1.4 million people annually in 2019. Due to COVID there was a dramatic drop in people seeking care for TB and delays of few weeks to months will lead to an undesirable outcome. If you have symptoms suggestive of TB please approach a doctor asap
