difference between autistic and autism
Posted on 10/4/2025 at 11:26:52 AM by AUTISMDOCTOR
introvertness or talking, feeling or doing something for or about self, is often a term confused with autistic.
we all may be selfish or introvert at times.
any one who has issues in opening up with other human being, that is socialisation and communication; is likely to have poor emotional or social quotient and can be called to be having social communication disorder.
all those who have social communication issues, feel themselves as autistic. but they donot satisfy defintion of autism spectrum disorder by ICD11 or DSM 5.
a definition of autism spectrum disorder needs to have at least 2 different issues of persistent repititive restrictive behaviour to think about having autism spectrum disorder.
those who dont have any behavioural issue are closer to social communication disorder and not autism.
those who have one type of behavioural issue are neither social communbication disorder alone or autism spectrum disorder, they may be evolving , so may be purely autistic but not autism.
even if a child with social communication disorder with 2 types of behavioural disorders, it still may not be autism if the child has any other neurological or genetic or syndromic disorder, and this is one of reasons why many doctors may be asking for costly tests in autism kids. even these children may be autistic and not pure autism.
as a general rule if a child suspected of autism didnot walk till age 18 months, is likely to be not autism and even these kids may be autistic even if they satisfy the criteria, as pure autism cannot have delayed walking even if they have hypotonia.
name doesnt matter, what we do does matter.
