Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs) are a group of conditions that result from alcohol exposure during the prenatal period. These disorders can have lifelong implications and vary in severity. Here’s what you need to know:
Symptoms and Diagnosis:
Symptoms can vary widely but may include:
Physical: Distinct facial features (such as a smooth philtrum, thin upper lip, small eye openings), growth deficiencies, and organ defects.
Cognitive: Intellectual disabilities, learning difficulties, poor memory, difficulty with attention, and poor problem-solving skills.
Behavioral: Hyperactivity, poor impulse control, social withdrawal, and difficulties with communication.
