Dr. Cyres Mehta underwent advanced training for Phacoemulsification Cataract surgery in USA under Prof. Howard Fine, the top cataract phaco surgeon in USA and inventor of clear corneal phaco surgery and by Prof. He was awarded the Fellowship of the St. Vincentius Hospital, Karlsruhe Germany by Prof. Rentsch. He was awarded the fellowship of the American society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS). He is the first and youngest Indian Fellow of this society.

At the All India G.V. Mavlankar Shooting Championship in Ahmedabad, Prof. Dr. Cyres Mehta, renowned eye surgeon from Mumbai representing Maharashtra, won a 🥉 Bronze Medal in Standard Pistol — his third national medal! 👏

He was recognised by his mentor Shri Ashok Pandit, Arjuna Awardee, President of the Maharashtra Rifle Association, and Vice President of the Maharashtra Olympic Association, for his continued excellence in both medicine and sport.

Following in his footsteps, 13-year-old Zane Mehta shot an impressive 258/300 in Sports Pistol, earning the title “Aspiring Shooter of India” and qualifying to represent Maharashtra at the Nationals in Delhi this December. 🔥

When a lens has been implanted 10 to 15 years ago, it is common for a refractive error or “number” to develop over time. Many patients hope to upgrade to a modern trifocal lens, but the original implanted lens cannot be removed since it naturally attaches to the eye. Removal is only advised in rare cases such as damage, trauma, or when support weakens with age.

A new advancement in eye care, known as piggyback lens implantation, now offers an effective alternative. In this technique, a new lens is inserted through a small opening and positioned over the existing lens, improving vision and providing multifocal clarity without the need for removal.

This procedure is not suitable for all cases, which makes a detailed evaluation by an expert eye surgeon essential. When performed on the right patient, the results are consistently successful.

“I am putting up this review after ~9 months of my SMILE eye surgery performed by the coolest & renowned ophthalmologist, Dr. Cyres Mehta.

Initially, I did an extensive research on LASIK vs SMILE (including other methodologies). I first met Dr. Mehta in Aug 2023, where he cleared absolutely all sorts of hesitation I had regarding vision-correction surgeries, as it definitely is a big deal to get something in your eye done. His technical know-how in layman terms really helps the potential patient to understand the process well. It’s so important to be able to trust your doctor!

The type of surgery that he’d finalise depends on a few key parameters of the patient’s eye. I was lucky enough to undergo SMILE in Dec 2024, as my pre-op test reports were ideal. It just took Dr. Mehta a couple of minutes (for both eyes) & I walked out with ~90% vision, without any discomfort/irritation. SMILE truly is painless!

I was so confident & faithful throughout. Truly blessed to get operated by him. Post-op as well he was constantly in touch via WhatsApp & re-prescribed the necessary eye-drops.

Highly recommended to anyone seeking advice on vision-correction surgeries with world-class care. 💯
