Thousands have written a prayer for a legendary artist’s health...

Many have been COVID survivors and they know the pain....

Just that....

None of them even wished well... for those five hundred and odd doctors who died fighting this pandemic... and well....... might have been “infected “ by one of them!!!!

To all my friends in FB......A personal note ....long post!!!

Consider this:
On an average:-
we face at least 7.6 deaths per 1000 population in India. That translates to 27 lakh deaths in three months considering a 1.3 billion population of india. These are deaths due to various causes...chief of which happen to be due to accidents; cardiac diseases; stroke etc.
we have approximately 7000 deaths EVERYDAY due to hunger in India!!!

So.... Corona is NOT that bad a killer!!

Then why this panic?
There is no panic created by any authority...
Conjecture is THE single important reason for panic based on the numbers churned out on hourly basis.
The Government,Health authorities and the administration have been doing an exemplary work. You should credit to them for keeping the numbers low. Honestly... in the first week of march I had been really worried as to how this would fan out and to my own close circle had predicted the case fatalities in the thousands... even if a lock-down were to be in place. A death rate of 250 for 7500 positives is a good ratio...indicating good containment but may be too early to call if "flattened-curve".

Actually WE HAVE DONE IT GUYS.!!!!!

But this is no time for jubilation and celebration.
Lets continue with the government guidelines...be disciplined...because no amount of ICU care or Ventilators can substitute for this discipline of social-distancing and cleanliness... with due precautions and "staying-alert".

one more question: Have we over-reacted?
Not at all. We have acted decisively at the right time...so that I could draft this post out of sheer gratitude to each one of you and our Leadership.

A little more will be needed from us...and the 15 day extension will take care of that. lets stay united and steadfast.
So... finally...what happens to all those deaths..mentioned at the beginning?...They are happening ...are being attended to (as exemplified by the number of incidental health-worker infections of corona)...but are not reported...because the MSM doesn't consider them relevant and also because...it might artificially jack up numbers and add to the panic. Hospitals are working...of course with exceptions...The society continues to be "sick" in that sense...only nature is healing itself in the absence of human activity.

God bless....Stay safe...stay healthy.

Some "gyaan" for our Health-care work force.

1. Please practice "social-distancing" even amongst yourselves... Not just with patients and their kin.

a. No going to the canteen or the sideroom for eating or relaxing...in groups. Not even in "twos".. stagger it strictly "one-after-the other".
b. Even as you care for persons in the zone one ..or isolation zones or even amony the "only suspect" cases or in the wards of the "so-called-contacts"... Please...DO NOT SIT ON ANY CHAIRS/STOOLS!!!...that would be a tall order right!!!! And if you do have to sit...let the chair or stool be cleaned by a disinfectant before the next one does..or as soon as you get up.
c. DO NOT PRACTICE ACADEMIC COURSES IN THESE WARDS... No rounds in groups... No falling over each other's back to see a procedure etc. Use teaching accessories or side scopes while demonstrating procedures.
d. Strictly... No touching anybody for social purposes like wishing good bye..even patting for appreciation etc etc.
e. "Clasped-hand" posture as we do in our operation theatres...when your hands are not "working" in the clinical sense...keep them clasped.
d. Keep distance between your hands and face too!!!

2. Practice "aerosol-dissipation"...
This is a tough one... For this, ideally the ICU s must have a good cross ventilation...besides the A/C.
For two hours in the mid day say between 2 and 4 pm and for an hour in early dawn ..say between 5am and 6 am the windows of a "cross-ventilated" ICU must be opened to allow fresh air to dissipate the aerosol that "lingers" inside an ICU. This would help many ICU- like closed places which actually exacerbate infection by the aerosol-lingering that happens almost in all such closed spaces...leading to the cross infection that happens in the health-care work force.
ICU s that have "laminar-flows" and HEPA filters maybe exempt....but I know that atleast in the majority of ICUs here...they do not have laminar-flows and HEPA filters.

3. Get fresh air as frequently as you can by going to open spaces or even the terrace of the building at least once a day...spend at least an hour in an open space....of course away from ALL... Definitely not in an "overcrowded" or even "crowded" space.

4. Eat fresh food as far as possible.. again a tall order in these times...but supplement atleast with omega3 and vit.C.
