Why this shift in viewing breastfeeding from something pure and beautiful to something disgusting and to be covered up?
Yasodha even though being a foster mother breastfed krishna and did it proudly .Back then no one considered it disgusting to feed baby till they are 5 or 6 yrs old .. wasn't inconvenient to nurse in public .There wasn't any "alternatives" .
Its ok to go for alternatives when there is low supply or other medical issues .But should the society decide if you should feed your baby or not??
Now it's considered immoral and disgusting to nurse in public ..to nurse without cover ..to nurse baby when they are old enough to ask for it.
BUT WHY????
How would we feel if we were made to drink and eat with a shawl over our head ,with no ventilation & suffocation how can you expect baby to feed?
Why shouldn't baby feed till they are 5 / 6yrs if mother and baby choses to?Why is it considered selfish on the mothers side if she continues breastfeeding for baby after 1 yr?Even WHO recommends till 2 yrs.but noo.its not what society wants .
You can Feed baby with formula till even 10 yrs ..no one will bat an eye.. yet feeding after 1 yr is a big no no .
Why is a women clad in bikini & a semi naked man considered appropriate yet nursing infant considered inappropriate??
There is a shocking increase in obesity, low immunity ,health issues in children who are not properly breastfed ,yet they are not given the golden nectar because of the unwritten rules of society.
THIS HAS TO STOP NOW
What can be done??
1.Support mothers who breastfeed
2.Keep breastfeeding rooms in all public places (Not a trial room/store room /poorly ventilated tiny chamber isn't enough .If you can't sit even sit in that room for 5 minutes..it ain't enough)
4.Spread the word on importance of breastfeeding
5.Offer Lactation consultation first instead of going for alternatives
6.Promote breastmilk donation(if ma yasodha can feed krishna her milk , you can help another mother feed her child too)
7.Help mothers Nurse in public if they chose to
8.If you see a new mother struggling with baby and bags & what not with no one to support her ,offer help
9.change your viewpoint

Premature babies are fighters ..
They might seem weak ,but it's just amazing what those little ones are capable of fighting
So let's not seperate them from their parents for long..
Encourage kangaroo care..
And reduce NICU stay ..
