Is 'Digital Obesity' Indiaโs Silent Epidemic?
In India, educators and psychologists are calling digital obesity the new silent epidemic. Just like unhealthy food leads to obesity, unchecked consumption of digital content leads to cognitive, emotional, and physical overload.
A VNIT study (Nagpur, 2025) showed that students spending 6โ8+ hours/day online outside academics reported:
- Higher levels of emotional instability
- Poorer concentration
- Sleep disturbances
- More frequent feelings of anxiety and irritability
