🌿 Ayurvedic Point of View: Irregular Menstruation
1. Doṣa Involvement
Vāta Doṣa – Main Dominant Factor
Apāna vāta ৰ dushti হলে menstrual flow delay, scanty, irregular pattern দেখা দিয়ে ।
Lifestyle factors: stress, fasting, excessive travel, lack of sleep — এই গোটেই কেইটা vata vyadhi.
Pitta Doṣa
Pitta dushti হলে early periods, heavy bleeding, irritability, acne, burning sensation.
Heat-producing food, hormonal imbalance type presentations.
Kapha Doṣa
Kapha excess হলে delayed cycles, weight gain, lethargy, PCOD-like picture.
Metabolic sluggishness → āgni manda → ārtava formation thik nohoi.
🌿 2. Ārtava Dushti Concept
Ayurvedat irregular periods keval timing issue nohoi, eti ārtava dushti
Artava kshaya: scanty, delayed bleeding
Artava vriddhi: heavy, prolonged
Artava viplava: irregular pattern — exact term for irregular menstruation
🌿 3. Agni Dushti
Āgni manda → improper rasa-dhātu formation → ārtava malformation → cycle irregular
Many PCOD cases follow this root pathology.
🌿 4. Srotas Dushti
Ārtavavaha srotas obstruction or sluggishness =
delayed cycles
dysmenorrhoea
anovulatory cycles
Causes: kapha accumulation, medo-vriddhi, stress-related vāta ascent.
🌿 5. Nidāna (Causes)
Stress, night-sleep disturbances
Excess cold foods, curd, heavy kapha-increasing diet
Prolonged fasting
Obesity / sedentary lifestyle
Hormonal imbalance
Excess exercise or travel
Faulty āhāra vihāra
🌿 6. Chikitsā Sūtra (General Treatment Line)
Vāta-Pitta-Kapha balancing depending on the presentation
Āgni deepana & āma pachana
Chitrakadi vati, Hingvastak churna (clinical choice)
Vāta-anulomana
Castor oil mild dose / Trivrit lehya / Ghee preparations
Lekhana or kapha-medo shodhana (if PCOD picture)
Kanchanar guggulu, Trikatu, Triphala
Uterine tonics & Ārtava-janana drugs
Rajapravartini vati
Kumaryasava
Dashamoolarishta
Phalaghrita (fertility enhancing & strengthens apāna vāta)
Stress management
Brahmi, Shankhpushpi, Ashwagandha
External treatments
Abhyanga with sesame oil
Nadi sweda to lower abdomen
Basti (if needed for chronic vāta cases)
🌿 7. Diet & Lifestyle
Warm, light, easily digestible food
Avoid cold food, bakery, curd, excessive sugar
Regular sleep cycle
Gentle yoga: Baddha konasana, Bhujangasana, Vajrasana post-meals
