“Why worry ? The death rate is low and recovery rate is high.” This is what is making people in general carefree about . I have recently seen posts circulating on social media that say it’s like normal flu, vaccine is being tested and death due to accidents, cancer etc is much high, so “ Everything will be ok”
Sorry to burst the myth .
IT IS NOT OK .
1. True , death rate is lower than other countries . It is 4 per cent . That means out of 100 patients testing positive 4 people die. Do you know which category of statistics you are going to fall into . Are you sure you will be among 96 per cent recovered if unfortunately you get the disease ?
And what about the 4 percent . For their family it’s a 100 per cent loss.
2. Vaccine is good news. No doubt. How many years did it take for polio to get eradicated from our country? We have polio vaccine ,right? We got WHO certificate that India is polio free in 2014 after the immunisation programme that started in 1995 . It took 19 years to eradicate it and yet we still had pulse polio programme this year. Is this making sense to everyone ? Corona is here to stay . It has come and it is not going to go so easily. It’s a flu virus for God’s sake.
3. I totally agree that death rate due to other diseases is high . But when a person dies due to cancer he or she is not infecting near and dear ones and succumbing . In covid you take along with you your near and dear ones too.
This is a disease with fatality rate higher for co morbids. Just follow simple measures and we will win this war. Get used to the new normal. Save yourself and your family.
Once the virus doesn’t find host it will lose the battle and we all will win.
