How Physiotherapy helped Mirabai Chanu achieve Olympic Glory after 21 years?

As Mirabai Chanu 🏋️‍♀️was in the midst of opening India’s medal account with a silver 🥈at the Tokyo Games on Saturday,
Dr Aaron Horschig — renowned strength and conditioning coach who has been working with the champion weightlifter in the lead up to the Games — was watching all the action from his home in St Louis, United States.
She suffered from back pain and also had tightness in her shoulders.
The move to work with Aaron — a national-level weightlifter-turned physiotherapist — proved to be a masterstroke for Mirabai. Aaron has trained many players who are currently part of America’s National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB) among others.
“The right shoulder was painful during the turnover phase of the sn**ch. Upon examination I found her issue to be associated with a problem in shoulder blade positioning and failure to upwardly rotate optimally. Her shoulder blade was unable to provide sufficient stability for the arm and that led to pain. After addressing this issue, we were able to see massive changes in pain free capacity and stability under the barbell,” Aaron assessed.
To top that, Chanu’s lower back was affected each time she squatted.
“With proper evaluation, we uncovered that her source of pain was a hip mobility restriction which hindered optimal glute muscle activation. This resulted in over reliance on other tissues in the hip and the development of pain.”
With specific exercises tailored to address these problems, Aaron helped Mirabai eliminate pain and perform a strong quality squat.
Once the issues were sorted, Mirabai was able to perform at her best.

The best pre-workout stretches are going to be dynamic stretches—where you’re moving throughout—not static stretches, where you get into a pose and hold it. These dynamic moves are better for your warm-up than static stretching, which works best for your cool-down after your workout.
Dynamic stretches prior to any physical activity takes the muscles through a wider range of motion and warms up the body more than static stretching. Warm-ups are crucial no matter what your workout might be. These moves focus on full-body movement that stretches your spine, core, glutes, hamstrings, hip flexors, back, and shoulders. Warm-ups are designed to be easy rather than strenuous. Warm-ups shouldn’t be stressful or wear your muscles out. They should be easy and specific to your main movement required for your workout, and what your body needs to achieve that movement.

💢 Knee Crepitus (Noisy Knees) 💢

It is commonly thought that a noisy knee joint is caused due to some (problem) or a clinical pathology.

🤔 Often patients are worried about the funny noises that their body is making. Knee is a common area of particular concern because popping and clicking noises are common in the patellofemoral joint aka kneecap.

👍 It is important to note that if there is no associated pain in the joint, all the funny noises you here your knee joints making may be due to movement of fluid behind the knee joint which is an indicator of a healthy and a well lubricated joint.

😣 Stop feeling bad about your noisy knees. Have a healthy and happy (noisy) knee day.

Our spine is the bedrock for all the activities we are able to perform. However, there are times our posture gets impaired due to the wrong habits, overuse, and multiple other factors. Often this results in different problems in the body which manifests in the form of pain, stiffness, impaired movements, lack of sleep, mental health issues, etc. A holistic health care approach will help in providing best results. Fruit may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about sources of protein.
Guava: You’ll get a whopping 4.2 grams of the stuff in every cup.
1⃣Avocado: A cup of it sliced or cubed packs 3 grams of protein. Mashed will give you 4.6.
2⃣Jackfruit: It is fairly high in protein for a piece of fruit. It packs 2.8 grams of protein per cup.
3⃣Kiwi: It will give you about 2 grams of protein per cup.
4⃣Apricot: A cup of it sliced clocks in at 2.3 grams of protein.
5⃣Blackberries and Raspberries: Blackberries have an impressive 2 grams per cup. Raspberries are relatively high in protein, too. They serve up about 1.5 grams per cup.
6⃣Raisins: One ounce, or about 60 of the little guys, has nearly 1 gram of protein.
7⃣Bananas: One medium banana brings 1.3 grams of protein.
8⃣Grapefruit: One medium grapefruit will give you 1.6 grams of protein.
9⃣Oranges: One medium orange packs 1.2 grams of protein.
🔟Cherries: One cup of pitted cherries has 1.6 grams of protein.
