Time and again this happens.
Whenever someone commits su***de, we immediately start playing the blame game.
We target people, groups, situations, circumstances who could be the possible reasons for that person to have taken such a drastic step.
Someone takes his/her own life and immediately the near & dear ones , or in case of a celebrity...the mass following , the fans ...in their grief , frustration, anger, look for a possible reason outside.
Yes, I do agree that this world does become cruel at times. There are people all around who take pleasure in demeaning others.
There are insecure people around for whom the only means of success is by pulling down the one moving ahead.
Unfortunately human beings have become negatively competitive.
It is not possible for us to change what is happening outside of us.
For example, imagine you have a very urgent/ unavoidable meeting to attend and there is heavy rainfall outside with water clogging in some areas.
We can't stop the storm, we can't control the lashing rains, what we do in such situation is to protect ourselves by staying indoors or if unavoidable ... we carry a shield in the form of umbrella, raincoat, gumboots.
Similarly, what happens externally, how others treat you, whether you got your dream job or not, whether you got the love of your life or not and many such situations..….. is beyond our control.
BUT….what we can certainly control is our MIND. Our thoughts, our perception, our faulty expectations of self and others...tend to make us miserable.
What we are, and what we THINK we are..
What the reality is, and what we THINK the reality is..
What and how we perceive the situation, and how the situation actually is..
More often than not, there are distortions. The conflict between our thoughts & reality leads to lot of conflict.
This manifests itself in many different ways- depression, anxiety, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts to name a few.
Rather than looking externally, let us first look inwards and make our minds strong.
We all can have absolute control over our mind..thoughts that lead to emotions which in turn make us behave as we do.
Those of us who are more vulnerable, need to learn these techniques.
I strongly believe, that these skills ought to be taught during early stages of life. Unfortunately, in our education system, there is no place for this.
We leave no stones unturned to make our body strong by feeding it with nourishing food, going to gyms, and fitness centres to get the perfect body.
What stops us from seeking professional help to strengthen our minds?
