Type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance are closely linked to the body's regulation of blood sugar.
Dr Rajkumar Kapoor, Director of Bio-Chemistry, BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, Delhi, explains that after eating, blood sugar levels rise and the pancreas releases insulin. This hormone helps maintain normal sugar levels. In insulin resistance, body cells do not respond effectively to insulin, leading to poor sugar utilisation and higher levels of glucose in the blood.
Lifestyle changes, regular exercise, and a balanced diet play an important role in managing it.
