Today, DOA has already taken a significant step towards shaping the future of optometry in India. On October 10, 2025, the DOA initiated litigation proceedings and issued a cheque of Rs 3 lakhs for preparing the legal documentation to a team of advocates, marking a defining moment for the profession*
1. Urgent Need for Funds to File PIL for Optometry Council
The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) process to establish an Optometry Council rather than the Ophthalmic Science Council under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021, is facing significant delays due to insufficient funds.
2. A Big Challenge is Facing the Executive Committee of DOA :
With less than 400 registered members supporting out of 1800 members of the Delhi Optometrists Association (DOA), it has become challenging to collect sufficient funds to appoint senior advocates for the PIL case.
DOA has Rs 16.65 lac in the account only instead required funds of Rs 35- to 40 lacs
3. Call to Action:
The DOA executive committee urges all Optometry professionals to contribute to the PIL fund and support the mission to establish an independent Optometry Council. Without sufficient funds, the litigation process may be further delayed.
