Strong TB programmes are built on strong partnerships and continuous capacity building.

Through collaboration with STDCs and State TB Cells, ECHO India supports healthcare providers across India with ongoing mentorship that strengthens programme implementation and patient-centred care. Initiatives like the TB Tuesday Clinics in Andhra Pradesh demonstrate how structured, role-specific learning can improve coordination, adherence, and treatment outcomes.

Dr. Lakshmi, District TB Officer from Visakhapatnam stated "Before TB Tuesdays, many of us worked in silos. Now, every week we come together, learn, and solve problems as one united team."

Supporting the national rollout of Bedaquiline for MDR-TB marked an important milestone in strengthening drug-resistant TB care in India.

According to a study by the National Institute of Tuberculosis & Respiratory Diseases (NITRD) published in The International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, 83% of 620 patients achieved culture conversion within a median time of 60 days. Through focused capacity-building at Nodal DR-TB Centres and collaboration with national experts and partners, ECHO India helped enhance provider confidence in the safe and effective implementation of newer treatment regimens.

TB patients come with diverse clinical and social risk factors. Effective identification and management require care tailored to individual needs through a differentiated TB approach, ensuring timely treatment and improved outcomes.

To support this, State Tuberculosis Cell (STC) Telangana in partnership with launched the Integrating Differentiated TB Care (DTC) Through Empowerment of AAMs (IDEA) Program in Hyderabad on 27th February.

Supported by Infosys Foundation, this program will build the capacity of primary healthcare workers to incorporate DTC in their practice to improve the screening, diagnosis, timely treatment and mortality of TB patients.

We were honoured to have Dr A Rajesham, STO Telangana and other esteemed dignitaries join us for the launch.

This initiative is a transformative step towards a more inclusive and patient-centred TB care ecosystem in Telangana. Together, let’s ensure timely care, dignity, and better outcomes for all those affected by TB.

Tuberculosis is more than a statistic, it is a disease shaped by inequity, access, and system readiness. While India has made important strides in expanding TB services, the disease continues to challenge public health because early diagnosis is not always timely, care is not always continuous, and vulnerable populations often fall through the cracks.

TB thrives where health systems are stretched, where social and economic barriers delay care-seeking, and where patients struggle to stay connected to treatment over time. Addressing TB therefore requires more than medical solutions, it demands stronger healthcare capacity, skilled and supported frontline workers, and collaboration across sectors to ensure that every person with TB is reached early and supported throughout their care journey.

India’s path to ending TB depends on closing these gaps, strengthening systems, and putting people at the centre of care.
